Do you use Glide thread?
 

An online store I love had a super sale on Glide thread so I bought a bunch. I have no idea what I was thinking as I'd not previously tried it and have been a Gutermann cotton user forever. I have my first spool of Glide on my machine and it doesn't seem to work too well for piecing. I find I need to cut tails longer and the edge stitches want to loosen or pull out. Is Glide not meant for piecing? If you love it, tell me why. Please!

I use cones of Essential Cotton Thread from Connecting Threads. It works great in my machine and I like how it sews, looks, and feels in both piecing and machine quilting.

I use Glide thread for quilting, but not for piecing. I love it for quilting. It is a polyester thread, so it is a bit more slippery than cotton thread, which is probably why you're having the issues with it that you don't have when piecing with the Gutermann cotton.

I also only use it for quilting, never for piecing. I prefer a 50 wt cotton like Aurifil for piecing.

Good post, didn't know that about glide thread. Is it good for FMQ with a domestic machine or just a long arm?

I used Glide for quilting, particularly FMQ. My Juki 2200 MIni loves it and I like the way it looks. It's the only thread I've used for quilting lately. I really like that it's not linty so I can quilt an entire quilt without worrying about cleaning the bobbin area of my machine.

I've never used it for piecing but since it's trilobal poly thread, its going to be considerably different than Gutermann. I don't use Gutermann to piece, but I use it for garment construction.

Kara, I use it on a domestic machine and it's great.

I love glide for everything. It is one of my go to threads for quilting in the hoop on the embroidery machine.
I use a micro-tex 80/12 needle.

What needle are you using in the machine?

My machine H*ates the orange tip cotton thread that most others love. It is gritty and catches in the machine.

Glide is 40 wt so to thick for piecing. There is a 60 wt for detail quilt stitches. It is used for machine quilting. Did you know this:

• Lubricant is uniformly applied throughout each spool for maximum tension consistency

I started using it for FMQ at first and fell in love with it. Then I started a BOM that was all paper pieced and used it for that as it gave me great seams. Now I pretty much use it for everything I do usually take 1 or 2 back stitches when starting and finishing a seam.

I love Glide thread. I use it for piecing and for top stitching. It has been my go to for many years now. I do shorten t stitch length though, I usually piece at 1.5-1.8. I find it holds great on the ends this way.
