I'm thinking about asking for a Side Winder Bobbin Machine for Christmas, but am wondering how practical they really are.

Do you use one?

Michelle

No, but only because they don't work on featherweights and I use pre-wounds on my Janome.

i have one and wind all my bobbins with it. i have singer and janome machines and it works well for all of them. since i got the side winder i don't fill any bobbins on the machine. there is a newer version out now - more expensive and is supposed to be compatable with all makes.

I bought the Dritz Better Bobbin Winder and I use it all the time. It's easy to wind bobbins on it, and it fits all sizes of bobbins, even the ones for my Featherweight. I don't know how I did without it.

I have a Janome 6500 machine. What kind of Side Winder should I get???

Thanks,
Michelle

My Janome has a separate motor for the built-in bobbin winder so I don't need one. If I didn't have this machine I probably would get one. My sister has one and uses it all the time.

In another post I told how my DGD loves it. I have plenty of wound bobbins. It's a great buy if you have lots of little hands to help in the sewing room.

I just got one last week! I am Loving it! and, it's cute, too.

I use the Better Bobbin winder too. I like that it has the telescopic thread lift for winding from cones. I got mine at Joannes with a 50% off coupon. I like it and use it to wind my Pfaff and Juki bobbins..

I've just started to see these advertised. Haven't used one but could see the benefit. They can't be used with all bobbins?
