I do usually make a test block to check the color combinations and seam directions. I make notes (cause if I don't I won't remember) so all the blocks come out the same, or at least close.

YES, I make a test block.

I always make a test block, especially if it involves lots of the same or like. For instance, my next quilt will be the Snake River Log Cabin by Judy Martin. I have to make a number of four different blocks. you bet, I am going to test these as a lot of cutting and sewing is involved.

I thought it would be a good idea that way you will see if you like the block before cutting up all of your fabric.

Your thoughts please! Thanking you in advance.

Well, I never thought of that of because I am new at quilting this is definitely something I should do.

Yes I do I always have sometimes after I have made a sample I don't care for the pattern as much as I had in the beginning.

ef :-D

No, I always lay the materials together to make sure the colors are good together.
I do like the idea of the Christmas sampler.

I don't, unless the first blocks turns out badly. :-)

On unfamiliar blocks yes. For instance I am trying to make a hunter star quilt - my first one - and still am making practice blocks until I get it right. Am now working on doing it with paper piecing and still don't feel confident enough to use the fabric I have for the quilt so am using up odds and ends of fabric.

I also sometimes do test blocks just to test out different ways of arranging the fabrics I'm using, just in case what I have in mind at first isn't the best-looking one.

I do - I would hate to have everything cut and then find out I really don't care for it....
