I've tried using my dust buster to clean out the lint that accumulated from sewing rag quilts, flannel and fleece, but the attachment isn't small enough to get in to suck out the lint.
Is there such a thing as a vacuum cleaner for sewing machines??? If not, what can I use? |
They do sell attachments to clean out sewing machines and other electronic :D:D:D
I use a cheap paintbrush to clean my machines.
I use a Q-tip, but it doesn't reach as far back as it needs to
I vacuum out my machine with a regular hose. I just tape a straw to the end of the crevice attachment, taping around to close off the opening around the straw. The straw fits in everywhere.

I bought a micro attachment kit from a local vacuum store. It didn't fit my home vacuum so I bought a small handheld one from Walmart that doesn't leave my craft room. I use it as often as I remember to. I just sucked it all out a few days ago. Boy, it was overdue but I've seen worse!

I have the micro vacuum attachment kit and it fits on my regular vacuum cleaner. Looks like this.

I use a smaller sized shopvac and a small paintbrush to loosen stuff up while holder the hose end over it. Works great.

Pipecleaners are wonderful tools to help cleaning your machine. Most important, never ever use canned air to clean your machine. It just blows the lint into places you can't get too!
We have a small handheld vac that we use to vacuum out the machines. Usually an artist size paintbrush gets everything out, but occasionally we have to vacuum. I need to try the pipe cleaners.
I've heard of special vacuums but I just use my big one until it's time for a cleaning from the professionals!
I just BLOW my hot air into the bottom of it...LOL....make sure to close your eyes if you try this!
I send mine out to the shop with my husband and he uses the huge air compressor to blow out all my machines and my serger. Not a speck of dust or lint left!

i bought a hand dandy little attachment kit for my vaccuum that lets me clean out my computer and my sewing machine. it is a wonderful thing  has a hose that attaches to the vaccuum hose then 1/2 a dozen different attachments, small brushes ect. i believe i bought it at a computer/office place (like office max) but it works so good on my machine! it was not expensive...less than $20 and well worth it.
I too, have the minature vacuum cleaner attachments that fit onto either vacuum. Word of precaution: you should not blow into or use pressurized air to blow out your machines. It will send dust and thread to places in there that we don't even know exist. This mistake cost me a Singer machine. I think it was a low-end computerized (don't remember the name). But I had used a can of compressed air to clean it out and... well let's just say it was an expensive lesson learned at the repair shop! The only good that came from this, other than a valuable lesson, was my first Janome 6600P.
They make little vaccuum cleaners for computers that you could use for your sewing machine. I just use my "regular" vac in between annual checkups at the Viking repair guy's.
I use the micro tool set attachment for my regular vacuum cleaner. I vacuum my machines out after every bobbin change, and oil then as well. When I take the covers off my machines, I use my air compressor on them to get them spotless inside.

There is an attachment that you can put on your vacuum hose that you can use for to vacuum out all the lint, I think I got mine years ago at Clotilde. If she does not have them I would google it.... maybe sewing machine vacuum attchment or something to that effect
that is a great idea

Clotilde carries the attachments for vacs. I use mine all the time.
And Clotilde has the best price of all the sewing machine cleaning attachments. Check it out: http://www.clotilde.com/list.html?cr...ment&x=14&y=10 |
I checked Clotilde.com and they have the vaccum attachment for $9.98, check it out

You have to be careful using canned air on some of your machines, if you get moisture it there it could cause you some problems,,,, I know lots of folks clean with canned air, I am just saying be careful with the moisture
Walmart carries the small vacuum adapter. It's a lot cheaper than the ones from the LQS.
Thanks for the advice...I guess I better get me a little vac....Barb
I use pressurized air cans. You can buy them at Staples or Office depot. They have a long skinny tube that attaches to the spray nozzle and that allows you to get into all the nooks and crankies of your sewing machine. It's the same can that you would buy to clean the dust and lint from your computer...

I, too, use the micro vacuum attachment connected to my Hoover Windtunnel which always stays behind my sewing chair. If I have only a small amount of lint, I use one of the brushes from Estee Lauder make-up kits. I save these brushes for cleaning my machines only. They are great! The large brushes are good for over all cleaning and the smallest brush is perfect for cleaning the bobbin holder.

I love that place :) If any of you own the 1500 then you understand about trying to get the lint out from under the machine itself. It goes WAY back and is nearly impossible to reach. I hope the attachment I ordered works. |
There are kits that have small attachments for your regular vac hose. They sell them at Nancy's Notions & Clothilde, are $10.00 but worth every penny to get lint & thread dust from your sew machines. Please do not use canned air it pushes lint so far into your machine . Then to the repair shop the machine goes.

My husband is a computer geek so I use his spray can of compressed air. Works great.
