Does anyone else do this?
After I fold my binding over and iron it, I sew it 1/8" together on the unfinished side to keep it from pushing apart when I'm sewing it onto my quilt. It really helps. It lays flat and no more surprises.

too much work for me ;-)

That question is pretty much answered on this current thread.

After I wrote this thread, I saw there was another thread just like this one.

I have used this method and the glue method. Both work great, so just depends on what I feel like doing.

I was making a bunch of binding this afternoon, to be ready to bind a project I'm finishing up. Suddenly I realized, I do that ..... except I sew mine at 1/4" .... as I add it to the quilt. Honestly, I don't believe in doing extra work if there's no need ... I've never had any problems in getting it to lay flat. All I do is cut it, join the strips, then press in 1/2 and I'm ready to go! |
I make my binding as soon as I finish the top. I then roll it onto an empty thread spool as I'm ironing it. By the time I get the top back from LAr the crease as set and I don't have any issues with it separating.

I cut my binding on the bias - and I do baste the edges together before putting the binding on the quilt so that it lays the way I want it to. Otherwise one layer would shift on me. I might consider gluing the edges together, though, instead of sewing them together with long, shallow, zigzag stitches.
I DO NOT press the binding in half - because I believe that the final fold shifts a bit as the binding is turned twice - maybe only a small fraction of an inch - (maybe the difference between a 1/4 inch seam and a scant 1/4 inch seam) |
NOPE...too much work, I spritz my binding strips with a water/sizing mix and press...stays just fine!

Sharon Schamber's method + Wonder Clips works for me.
|
I don't. I just sew it on to quilt.

Time saver
... and money saver ...... in not doing the extra step in stitching. |

No problems with the binding after I press it and sew it to the quilt. I use Dollar Store hair clips to keep it flat and have no problems with it at all.
|
I have started using a walking foot everytime I put binding and that releaves any problem with puckers.
