I found myself at the sewing machine a lot today, yet I kept walking away from quilt blocks to making things like pin cushions? I do this a lot. Sometimes I start a new quilt and then within' an hour or so, I whip out a quick skirt for myself! Hmm...strange. Is this disinterest or what?

sueisallaboutquilts 06-13-2010 05:40 PM

No, love, it sounds like a creative mind :D
But yes, I also have quilting ADD. Not so sure about my creativity level though lol

erstan947 06-13-2010 05:40 PM

I start working on a quilt and when I see how it's going to look I want to start a new challenge. I need to make the new challenge to finish what I have started!

Pam 06-13-2010 05:44 PM

Me, too. I need some kind of pill that will make me work instead of wander around and raid the fridge.

amma 06-13-2010 05:45 PM

I can bounce back and forth too...

Deb watkins 06-13-2010 05:47 PM

ADD, OCD, UFO, WIP..............

Bernice H in Calif 06-13-2010 05:47 PM

No, you are not the only one. I also seem to have several projects going at once. 2 quilts, an aporn, set of placemats, and a 5th grade graduation dress.

MNQuilter 06-13-2010 05:48 PM

Ha! This is so me! My DH says I can't finish anything! I have a ton of WIP (I refuse to admit that some might be UFO's) I just see a piece of fabric and it screams to go into a different project!

pab58 06-13-2010 05:49 PM

My fiance is always teasing me that I have too many projects started. He can't understand why I don't work on just one project at a time!

Where would the fun be in that?? ONE project?? Pffft!!

CarrieAnne 06-13-2010 05:52 PM

Me too!

kay carlson 06-13-2010 05:56 PM

I, too, have more than one thing going at a time. Even then, I have ideas streaming through my head. Right now, I am trying to finish up "work in progress" as I start another project.

If I never finish all my WIP's or use all my stash, I've told my husband not to fret. I use this hobby to keep my sanity. It is worth every cent invested and every hour I relax.

Sue said it best CREATIVE MINDS. There is nothing wrong with that. It's when we procrastinate, then we have a problem lol lol lol

I go To The Sea To Breathe 06-13-2010 06:00 PM

I was on the other side of the state Friday and wanted to check and see if their walmart had fabric still. Saw this beautiful fabric with large roses . I just loved it, and said I know I have seen that fabric used somewhere I have been. Got home earlier this evening and was sitting at my dinning room table and I looked up at my new curtain I made last week to use just to brighten things up for the summer. You guessed it. I had made them out of that same fabric and I had even purchased the fabric at our local wal mart. I did find out I have very high blood pressure and my thryoid is under working and they started me on new meds. Do you think I am safe to be around people or just losing it?

franie 06-13-2010 06:00 PM

I am with you and yes!

OMG that's the laugh of the WEEK!!!!!!!!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

thismomquilts 06-13-2010 06:06 PM

Ok, here's my theory - when my oldest was younger and we were homeschooling she would flit from one creative thing to another - she would embellish things, etc. I was told it's a sign of a genius mind - yep, I'm going with that....

Lets see, One on the frame-worked on it for two hours today, cut my next project on the Accuquilt, finished DGD cross stitch quilt, and bound it, finished second DGD birth wall hanging, still working on the "Year of" for second DGD book. And am in the process of designing DGS quilt.

Yep, that's what I got. Add that to my pattern illness...

I must be a genius, too!
My sister bought me a mug that says, "If I was organized, I'd be Dangerous!" Problem is that if I ever got everything completely organized, I'd just forget where I put it all!

Pamela Artman 06-13-2010 07:27 PM

Me too, me too!! All of the above! I have so many UFOs and WIPs. A quilt to hand quilt, two applique projects right now, a top without a border, 30+ tops to quilt, a baby quilt that needs binding, another one that needs a label, a project on my sewing machine, another in a case that I take to a sewing group on Mondays, a dozen purses and tote bags started, a knitted purse that needs a lining, quilted pillows that need backs and stuffed, a dozen scarves that need fringes... oh I could go on and on. And on. Oh yeah. That's me.

I feel more at home here all the time! :D

   Like I said earlier, I feel more at home here all the time, like I'm reading my own experiences!

annette1952 06-13-2010 08:12 PM

Yup!! I'm a genius too!

quiltingnonie 06-13-2010 08:35 PM

When I am sewing on one quilt, I am THINKING about cutting out another...and sometimes just can't wait to get up and slice a few rows of that new fabric that's just waiting for the rotary cutter!!

pittsburgpam 06-13-2010 08:37 PM

I used to be like that and I wasn't getting quilts DONE. I too would go onto something else when I got to a point where I could see what it was actually going to look like.

For the last two years I have worked on finishing things before I start something else. I did pretty good and got 12 tops done last year and several of them quilted so far.

I just keep telling myself that I can't start anything else until I finish what I'm working on. It can cause periods of not working on anything because I refuse to start something else but don't feel like working on the current one. I'm doing a lot better and I only have a couple of things going right now.

sueisallaboutquilts 06-13-2010 08:43 PM

I'm realizing more and more what a hopeless lot we are.......and I'm not complaining!!! :D lolol

Please let us know if you find one!! Even if I manage to sit down at the machine, I get up and wander off to watch television or find something to eat. As you can guess, nothing gets done. My personal rule is that I can't start something new until the "current" project is done (and I count having the top put together as done enough). I do have lots of UnStartedProjects around though!

raptureready 06-14-2010 01:25 AM

Maybe, but I have to set aside the 7 or 10 things I'm working on to start another project so I don't have time to think about it right now. I think I'll sort my fabrics. Perhaps take some pictures of what I bought at Marshall Dry Goods. And there's all the garage sale quilting books to read. I just can't think about ADD right now. I need to get caught up on one of my BOM classes that I'm making two of each block in different fabrics. I've got to pack up to go to Strips & Scraps sew-in today. Perhaps I'll work on my Funky Neighborhood blocks......... ADD, I can't worry about that right now, too much to do.

stitchinwitch 06-14-2010 03:09 AM

Same here!

beachlady 06-14-2010 03:28 AM

My DH wonders if I am a quilter or just a collector of fabric!!! My goal this year is to finish his t-shirt quilt and other WIPs. But, I still get to buy fabric!!

foxxigrani 06-14-2010 05:29 AM

Wish I could do stuff like that, but can't sew a lick. There are many times and lots of tote patterns later that I wish I was able to do this or that. I collect the patterns and then wonder what the heck I am doing with a sewing pattern, it does me no good.

GrammaNan 06-14-2010 05:58 AM

So THAT is what it is called: Quilter's ADD. I now have a diagnosis Hooray!

adrianlee 06-14-2010 05:59 AM

I am so happy I'm not alone with this creative mess. I have several pizza boxes of WIP. I actually got a pizza box empty where the Garfield quilt lived for a long time. Yes, I think projects take on a live of their own. Now that Garfield is done and gone out to the door to his new home, I really miss that project. But the empty pizza box is calling for a new project.

Connie Merritt 06-14-2010 06:12 AM

Never too many different projects doing at one time. I am somewhat disabled so I am at home 95% of the time. My day works like this; sorta clean up the house, cup of tea, pills UGH, then the creative area for more and more ideas. I usually quilt during the day of half a day, then a nap (us oldies get tired), then move on to some beading and in the evening I sit on the couch turn on the TV (opps the TV is on all day long (not watching, just noise) and then I do hand work while hearing my favorite programs. Oh dear then to bed. Creative minds are always on the move. Thank goodness for each of you because now we know we are not alone in what we do. Good thoughts

I do the same thing. Not enough time to do all.

Lori S 06-14-2010 07:40 AM

I just call it "Giving in to my sewing spirit". In short I do what ever I am in the spirit to do.

bstanbro 06-14-2010 07:42 AM

I think it means you don't want to do whatever it is you're working on. Sometimes I tell myself I'm going to have a whole day of sewing, and then spend the morning on the computer, wasting precious sewing hours. I think it comes down to whether I want to sew or not. If I haven't sewn for a few days, I can't wait to get to the machine and nothing gets in my way. If I've been sewing a lot, I'm much more distracted.

AliKat 06-14-2010 07:45 AM

Gads, this sounds like normal 'creativity' going on.

enjoy it.
