Does anyone know where I can find...

Flour Sack Towels to embroider on? I know Walmart has them but the quality isn't great for embroidering. Any ideas and resources would be helpful! :)

crashnquilt 11-29-2011 05:39 PM

I use the flour sack towels from Walmart. I wash them, no softner, then partial dry. Then I use a strong starch solution and iron them. Embroidery does very well for me.

sharon b 11-29-2011 05:40 PM

Hobby Lobby ? or online I think Mary Maxims has them

grammy Dwynn 11-29-2011 05:42 PM

A friend showed me the WalMart flour sacks she had purchased, and yes the quality of them is terrible, the are slightly better than cheese cloth. She did not use them.

Have you done a google search?

Nancy's Notion carries them.

Nanamoms 11-29-2011 05:43 PM

Try www.embroiderthis.com They usually carry good quality flour sack towels. Good luck!!!

Walgreen's towels are not bad but pricey. Sam's club has some towels that are supposed to be pretty nice for embroidery. I've never used them though.

3incollege 11-29-2011 05:48 PM

Martha Stewart sells them, very good quality. JoAnns has them also.

VickyS 11-29-2011 05:50 PM

Nice website! Thanks for the link!

amyjo 11-29-2011 05:54 PM

I always purchase them from the Thrifty White Drug. Have the best towels and are only about 99 cents each plus tax. I picked up a lot of them and had my mother embroider them and then gave them to my kids so they had something from their Grandma hand made. I got the last ones from her about a month before she had her massive stroke and passed away.

ME TOO...been using them for years...Hobby lobby has Aunt Martha's, but are always out when I need them. We have Atwoods, a farm supply place and they also have a no name brand that are pretty good and they sell them individually, so if I mess one up, I can easily replace it!

No matter what brand I use, I wash them in HOT water with a mild detergent and NO softener, hang to dry til damp then press.

ka9sdn 11-29-2011 06:35 PM

I have used the ones from Walmart and Sam's with no problem. Dam's didn't have them this week, now carry a terry towel.

booklady 11-29-2011 07:22 PM

there's a catalog called Herschner's where you can get them. Might try to search for them online. We used to get their catalogs all the time.

Txkolibri 11-30-2011 07:32 AM

You can also try AllAboutBlanks.........they do have excellent quality kitchen towels for embroidery.

Drue 11-30-2011 02:43 PM

I have bought at Bed Bath and Beyond and their quality is pretty good. If you don't have one close by you can go on line and order!

lizzyq 11-30-2011 02:55 PM

I saw some very nice ones today at a quilt shop on Cape Cod, so I imagine that other quilt shops might sell them too, perhaps some in your area. Good luck finding them.

quiltnut4ever 11-30-2011 03:25 PM

Thank you all for your answers! Definitely will check them all! Thanks!

jrhboxers 11-30-2011 03:50 PM

Fabric.com has them too. But like others have said, the Walmart ones are good too. I just made a batch of Oven Door Dresses for Christmas presents and used the ones from Walmart. And I have used them for painting too.

institches64 11-30-2011 04:18 PM

You can look at the towels on www.missouriquiltco.com. They sell fabrics, towels, etc. Super quick service also!

I have gotten mine at Kmart. They're from Martha Stewart. I've given many as gifts and they seem to hold up well.

BellaBoo 11-30-2011 06:56 PM

Check Herrschner's. They have them online herrschners.com. Maybe that will help you. I always got mine in January at Walgreen's. I would buy like 49 at a time, so I could embroider them and give them as a seven day set (I never put the day on) They also have good transfers also (you can find the same at Hancock's). Hope this helps! Edie

Japonica 12-01-2011 04:44 AM

Joann's! I bought some there. Not bad.

I bought the ones from Walmart just to use to in my kitchen. When they come out of the dryer they are so wrinkled that I have to iron them before I will use them to dry dishes with.LOL
And I HATE to iron. I gave one to one of my sons because flour sack towels absorb so very well and when he saw how it looked when it was washed and dryed he threw his in the trash. Not the reaction you'd want for something you put time in to embroider. Not all of the younger generation will use things that stay wrinkled and not all will iron.

GingerK 12-01-2011 05:17 AM

Try www.marymaxim.com I've seen flour sacks in their catalogues.

fayzer 12-01-2011 06:22 AM

Sam's has BiG flour sack towels. I use them all the time. They are not expensive. You get a big stack of them. They are in the kitchen supply area, close to the mops and brooms.

Doreen 12-01-2011 07:13 AM

I recently went on a search for toweling/tea towels. They didn't know what I was talking about when I went to Joanne's. They said to check online. Well, I found some thru "Quilter Studio" They sell by the yard and individual or sets of tea towels. They gave me excellent service and prices are very good. Whe my order came, there was a personalized hand written letter on the botton of my invoice letting me know about some special pricing. I will order more from them. web site is www.quilterstudio.com. The are in Westminster, Ma.
