I feel like Sewnoma. That is why I come here to read more about quilting even if I am not doing a lot these few weeks due to other concerns.

First, I hope you get your sparkle back, in regard to quilting. I think everything is cyclical...and something will come along that makes you feel excited about quilting again.
I still feel like a newbie...with just enough knowledge under my belt to be dangerous :D I still go through times when I'm just not feeling like working on a quilt. Like right now...I have a quilt I "should" be starting. Have all the fabric and I just can't get around to it. Luckily, it's not my day job, so I can put it off until I get the urge and find exactly the right pattern that really grabs me. The only reason I'd LIKE to be a newbie is so I could go on a shopping trip. I was in my LQS the other day and discovered I didn't need anything! How can that be?! Watson |
I was a Newbie in the 70's when I made a strip pieced log cabin quilt using Eleanor Burns pattern. But I was as busy working mom working full-time plus another
part-time job while raising two kids (one physically handicapped) and didn't really have time to really embrace quilting. Then when my kids were grown and had their own homes I had more time, my interest in quilting was renewed. I was still working full-time and a half so I still didn't have the time I would have liked. But I started buying BOM's but would only get one or two blocks done before other things took over my time. In 2007 my husband died of cancer. I worked through my grief by renewing my interest in quilting even using some of the insurance money to buy a Babylock Sewing/embroidery machine. Again I felt like a newbie. In 2008 I remarried. In the next 7 years my husband and I made 45 flannel raggy quilts. While we enjoyed making them it's just not the same as piecing intricate cotton quilts. In 2015 I finally retired! So I feel like a newbie again and need to re-learn skills and techniques. I've finished two of the BOM's and found while organizing my sewing room about 15 more BOM's and quilt kits that I'm excited about finishing them as well as starting new projects and learning new techniques. |
Cursing, screaming & crying over the multitude of things I did wrong? No thanks.

Yes, I loved enthusiasm and desire to really work on my projects -- but I have learned some much and my skills have really improved over the years!!

No I don't !! I actually love becoming a better quilter, it gives me the confidence to try new things and experiment with different techniques. While I will never be as good as others, I don't miss those days at all!! I still love fabric, I still look to others for inspiration and I'm still in awe of how everyone here is so helpful and always willing to share their knowledge!!!!! It's what has kept me from getting discouraged at times.

No, I like being able to do much better work than I used to.

Nope, I'm enjoying very much where I am right now, I've got better skills, a few notions that are very helpful that I didn't know about before, and I've got a nice stash built up and my therapy is making quilts, blankets, bags, clothes...I am older and wiser, I've learned to ignore rude people and quilt police ;) best hobby ever, really is therapy for me, sitting at one of my machines or shopping in my stash planning something is so much fun!!! Getting better every day, or at least trying to!!

Not at all! My granddaughter visited me last weekend and told me just how much she loves sleeping under her white-on-white quilt wedding quilt. That was payment enough for me for years of learning to do many different things.

No, I have a passion to quilt, still enjoy every aspect of it. Have many creative hobbies but quilting is at the top of my preferences.
