Our group uses the Black & Decker cordless scissors, found in the hardware section, under$20 & sometimes at Big Lots for $8. They are wonderful, strong, fast, & can cut thru 8 layers, so much better than the electric scissors found in the sewing stores. We do a lot of charity sewing (Dignity gowns & Christmas stockings) & it is so easy & fast to use the Black & Deckers & easy to around curves.

Wow what memories - I remember my mom cussing hers as she was making dresses.

Hmmm - Black & Decker usually makes a good product, and I like the idea of no cord limitation - I'll go check those out. :D

I bought a machine from a friend recently whose wife passed away before we knew him. He gave me lots of extras to go with it, including a pair of electric scissors. I had to play with them and was surprised they cut so well. But it would be hard to control them and get the exact cuts we need for quilting and sewing. While sorting through my stash and cutting pieces of fabric to donate, I used them and they did a good job of just slicing through the fabric pieces. I don't think I'll be using them very often though.

I have my mom's electric scissors too! Really nice ones, I had my own in my 20's and loved them and used them constantly but for the life of me, I can't remember what for! Some really good suggestions here for using them again so I think I'll get them out and see if they still work!

I have some, but haven't used them since I did garment sewing and I hate that so, I guess I won't be using them,.

I can relate - I have four daughters and when they outgrew mom making them dresses, I stopped clothes sewing and have NEVER looked back!! I had the electric scissors, but hated them.

I have a couple pair of the Black and Decker electric scissors that are rechargable. They do a pretty good job on heavier fabric and at first for cutting minky, but then wanted to jam up in the fabric. They are OK for some things but not precision cutting. They are in the tool dept and were only about $15.

I guessw they are really helpful if making the chenille throws.
cuts thru the three layers of flannell really fast.

I guess thay are good to have to cut thru the flannel for those chenille throws.
