My Q'nique also uses M class bobbins. I use two bobbin cases, one for the bobbins with magnetic centers (magna-glide delights by Fil-Tec) - this requires removing the metal insert from the bobbin case itself) and the other with the metal insert for regular bobbins. They both work well. For tension control, the Jamie Wallen method has helped me a lot.

I use them in my APQS. I tried it long ago with the disk out of the bobbin case and it didn't work. A couple of years ago the disk started to lose its "spring" and I had heard to add the genie with the disk. Works great!
As for size, I think originally they were only made in the L size and a LQS had a gammill(M bobbin) and used the L genie with the M bobbin for many years. That's where I first learned of them. |
I have a Tin Lizzie so don't know about your machine, and never knew of a 'backlash spring'. I just cut out a circle of cotton fabric with a hole in the middle to fit into the bobbin casing, - fixed my backlash problem. I doubt if they would help with bobbin tension problems, that would be a matter of adjusting the screw on the casing.
