I'm making a quilt for my DDIL. All the fabrics are batiks except for one. Does it look out of place? It's the green/blue mottled one. Please be honest. I want this to be special-after all she's about to give birth to my DGS. She's a very special young lady and I want this quilt to be really nice.

I'm having problems trying to post a picture. I've not posted from the iPad before. Please bear with me.

quiltstodo 08-23-2011 12:29 PM

I've never figured out how to attach pics from my ipad

sewmom 08-23-2011 12:29 PM

I'm sorry. I can't get this to post. Will try the other computer. My DH is not here to help so I'm going to get my netbook.

They all play nice together to my eye. Very nice.

whinnytoo 08-23-2011 12:43 PM

Very nice!!! there are no batik police, so go ahead and use it, I like it!

it looks just great to me!

amandasgramma 08-23-2011 12:56 PM

well -- I'll be the oddball --- it jumps out at me. I've developed a "rule of thumb" --- if I have to ask if it looks right, then I must not think it's right, so I change it. Otherwise, it will ALWAYS be the one piece your eye goes for!!!! Just MHO.

amyjo 08-23-2011 12:57 PM

I THINK IT LOOKS GREAT

yayaquilts 08-23-2011 12:58 PM

I think it looks really good. I often mix batiks with regular cottons!!

auntpiggylpn 08-23-2011 01:04 PM

Looks good! I mix regular quilting fabrics with batiks all the time and I think it works out well

Sandee 08-23-2011 01:26 PM

I liked it!

CoriAmD 08-23-2011 01:29 PM

Looks like it plays nicely with the others, I would let it stay ;-)

berrypatch 08-23-2011 01:32 PM

Looks good - picks up the blue from the fabric with the pink.

TonnieLoree 08-23-2011 01:33 PM

If you hadn't of pointed it out, I would never have known!

twixbar 08-23-2011 01:35 PM

It looks great, love your color choices.

Another oddball here. I think the pattern is a little to definite and it seems to jump out. Also, the fact that you questioned it says something.

irishrose 08-23-2011 01:46 PM

It looks great.

I have a non batik in my quilt on the design wall. Blends well. The only way I can tell by the selvages - batiks don't have them and this piece does. It also has a predominant right and wrong side, but that doesn't matter.

I also tell my matchy-matchy daughter that once it's sewed together almost anything will go together. I don't totally agree with that, but I'm trying to liberate her a bit before she purchases fabrics for her Snake River Log Cabin.

jrtpetey 08-23-2011 01:53 PM

Think it looks great!

pocoellie 08-23-2011 02:15 PM

Personally I think it looks great, she'll love it.

Annaquilts 08-23-2011 02:32 PM

Leave it. It is not batik but looks like it. It is my favorite color in there.

Xstitshmom 08-23-2011 02:42 PM

Goes just fine! Going to be a very pretty quilt.

QKO 08-23-2011 02:45 PM

It gives a nice balance to the blocks, the small brown flecks in the fabric go nicely with the other browns in the quilt, as well.

It's a keeper!

kiffie2413 08-23-2011 02:48 PM

I like it! I used to think I didn't like batik...just like I didn't like crazy quilt blocks...I have had to eat a lot of "quilt crow"...as you can tell by my avatar, the quilt has...gasp...batik in it!!! :-)

mcpatches 08-23-2011 02:52 PM

I'm the oddball, too. In the pic of just the one block, I don't think it goes. It jumps out too much. But in the pic of the sample layout with other blocks that include it, it looks good. Big help, huh?

Ann912 08-23-2011 02:56 PM

I think it works.

Cosy 08-23-2011 02:56 PM

I like it!

jljack 08-23-2011 03:16 PM

I like it...it adds a POP to the color scheme.

bearisgray 08-23-2011 03:19 PM

It does "jump out" at me, too.

I know many people mix batiks with "ordinary" quilting fabrics in their tops - I prefer not to.

dixiebelle162002 08-23-2011 03:20 PM

looks beautiful to me! :D

ube quilting 08-23-2011 03:23 PM

I works well. I like the pattern and fabrics you are using.
peace
