I think it looks great.

I think it looks nice, remember she picked the fabrics and pattern out. I once made a quilt for a friend where she had stitched scraps together from her projects, sort of like a Chinese coin quilt, and insisted that I use read for the sashing and borders. Well, I did it, however, the whole time I was making it I kept chanting "Red is a neutral", something I'd heard a quilter say on Simply Quilts. My DS and DH thought it was great, but more importantly she loved the quilt and was quite proud, as she was 80 years old at the time.

This is just my personal taste but I don't particular care for the white if indeed it is white or just a blank space. I would try different shades of ecru or some other neutral color.
|
LOL, when I squint at the quilt I see two eyes looking back at me. The colors are nice, I like them, but together they are a dark/light contrast. Some medium values brought into the mix might be a helpful addition. (High contrast quilts are great but in this pattern, not so much?)

that is what I was thinking....besides that it is just perfect....I love modern.....

My only suggestion would be to separate the lightest tan fabric blocks and the busy print (black and tan beans?) blocks a bit so your eye travels over the quilt. My eye wants to stop and get stuck on those. Other than that -- and it's only a suggestion -- this looks like a great modern quilt to me. A young person should love it!

it works for me, too. that would be a quiet quilt for me! i'm all for brights and black.
|
It looks good to me.. Maybe it just isn't your style.. Sometimes I am critical because the pattern isn't something I like

I would do some minor rearranging of blocks if it were mine, but other than that I think it looks great. Try moving some of the blocks around a bit and see if that "feels" better to you.

Bind it,looks great...Move on.....
|
It looks great! Once you put a border around it, everything will calm down and blend. Please don't over think it!
|
It is a great looking modern type quilt and with a dark border, I would call it done. She is sure to like it.

Thanks - update to come soon!!! Those 2 light blocks just happened to be the ones I started with. Once all the blocks are done the will be more spread out. :)

There are as many opinions as quilters out there. I would ask your friend to come in for one last look before assembly. If that's the way she wants it, who are we to judge and make change suggestions? I hope I'm not sounding negative here. It is certainly not my intent. But even though you personally don't prefer the way she's chosen her lay-out, it's still her choice. And as many have pointed out, it is a modern style look to this quilt.....not necessarily everyone's preference. As long as your friend approves the final lay-out, I'd just go with it. I hope this makes the completion easier on your conscience. I've been in the same boat, but have to force myself not to overthink another's choices. Good luck and I hope you post pics when it's complete!!

I like it, a lot! If your client chose the fabrics and pattern, then she will love it. I do understand your frustration, however, on being told which fabrics and pattern to use. Kinda feels like having your creativity hog-tied.

The pattern is really nice - and your work is lovely! I personally would break up the blocks that you have the same color side by side. mix your lights and darks into a broader non-discript design. (just my opinion)

It looks great bind it in black and it will make a very modern quilt.
|
Very cute !!

Move the blond blocks to a different location. Maybe offset them instead of having them on top of each other.
|
Is this the entire quilt? It looks pretty narrow for the other dimension. I agree with others who find stops and starts in eye motion. Decide whether the black and white high contrast or lightest beige catches you eye most and use those blocks to move your eye down the vertically held quilt from upper left across to the right 1/3 or 2/3 point and then back to the middle of the side opposite the start. This would move your eye through the quilt top. The technique is one taught to me by June Yeager at a class in Sisters, OR.

I love the modern look and the colors!

I think it looks fabulous! This is very much my style. I think your friend will love it!

I think the busy-ness is caused by too much use of light without a clear rule about where it's used. I'd tone down the corner squares from the stark white to something grey or darker. Use the lighter lights like the beige to create the bouncy light squares to add interest. Also, don't put the lights next door to each other (although I'm sure you're planning to move the ones that are so close.). I'd use random placement of the lighter blocks.
You've done excellent work, but I agree. It's not my cup of tea either. But I would ask your friend. If she says she likes it, then it's good. |
I love the way it looks :-) I can't wait to see the finished picture

I like it!

I might want to spread out the blonde rectangles too. Just lay out your blocks and make sure the colors balance. Your friends niece will adore it. Lots and lots of modern quilts don't use a border at all and I wouldn't on this one. A dark navy or black narrow binding would be perfect. Have confidence in your abilities. You're doing great!

I'm thinking it is gorgeous. too much white gets bland
|
I think it's the blaring white.
|
Looks really good!
|
I think it is a delightful quilt and easy on my eyes. Great job. !!
