My DH will take me to different quilt stores just for the fun of it. One time we went to a quilt store that had a room set up for DHs. Had t.v., recliners, and soda machine. It wasn't 5 minutes, and here he comes out of there. He starts talking to one of the clerks about a quilt on the wall. She was telling him that to buy it off the wall it would cost $500.00, but the material and pattern would be less expensive. He said he thought it would be a lot more than $500.00. They couldn't believe that a DH would think that. He told them that quilters don't think about labor. I always buy more when he's with me, and I'm going to keep him as long as I can!!!

My DH will come inside the quilt store if I ask him to. He likes to say he's no good at color choices, but he has proved himself wrong on that! I generally shop for fabrics during the week while he's working, just because it works better into my schedule and the stores are generally more quiet durning those days.
Funny, now that I think about it, I always go into Lowes, Menards, Tractor Supply, etc with him and watch him eye each and every tool and gaget and dream about "one day"... Maybe I should ask to go fabric shopping with him more often, to even things out! :D |

I sort of accidentally went on my first shop hop with my husband. I was driving him to a doctor's appointment and wanted to go to a new quilt shop in the same town. Since the doctor was 50 miles away, I told him that he owed it to me to go to the new shop.
We just walked into the door and one of the clerks asked me if we were there for the shop hop. Never heard of one before and when they explained what we have to do, I looked at my husband and he said, "why not?" So for the next three days we drove around California, up north, to the south and to the east. It was a lot of fun and even my husband enjoyed it. We got a giggle when I drove 25 miles in the wrong direction, then had to drive back the 25 miles. It was soon after that experience that I invested in a GPS. In the end, my husband said he had a good time. Of course, one of the cons was that I didn't spend as much time in each store as I would of liked to and I had to keep my shopping spree to a minimum. But I enjoyed his company and he got to see that I am not the only woman that shops for fabric like it is going out of style. I am sure, that if I wanted to go on another shop hop and I didn't have friends to go with, he would go with me again. I did learn a new trick to keep him dossal, however, I needed to make sure that I fed him every two hours. Of course, since each of the shops had water, food and treats, I didn't have any problem with this. Oh, I almost forgot to mention that I won a $300 basket of goodies from one of the shops. My husband felt like he helped me win the prize, so this gave him an incentive to on another one with me. |

I've done this, but I am the DH. I don't stay in the car, I get involved and let my opinion ring out on pattern selection and fabric. I even test out sewing machines before the wife buys them and have service manuals for when that is needed.
Take that DH with you, you might just find a great partner in another one of life's enjoyable adventures. If he is new at this, it's just like taking a kid fishing. Make the trip short, make it a positive thing, and go out for lunch or dinner together after and enoy the time together. He might just think: " that wasn't as bad as I thought it would be and I actually had fun". Good luck on having fun together. ...and i spend more when he goes fabric shopping with me!! :D:D:D ..but i don't argue with him anymore. there was an incredibly beautiful print that looked like a monet painting. he insisted i buy some of it. so i said, ok, i'll get a yard. at the cutting counter as the clerk opened it up and layed it out to measure ..well ...by the time the clerk, my husband & several others at the cutting counter finished with me i came home with five yards. thankfully, because it was perfect for my now favorite quilt, and just the right yardage amount! :) |
I can drive so have no need for DH to go with me. I have my own money so he has no clue nor does he care what I spend it on and vice versa so we both are happy. He in his recliner watching sports and me in my car going shop hopping.

Neither one of us would enjoy it if he came. I always feel kind of sorry for the husbands I see sleeping in the car and marvel at how long a wife will leave him there. How does one go about training a husband to do something so boring? The temptation of a lunch out must really get to them!
I don't go to car or gun shows, tho. It would be the same thing in reverse. My hubby did start going along to craft shows with me, and was a lot of help setting up my tent and shop. But after that, he was just taking up precious space in my 10x10 stall... I dropped some heavy hints that he should go home and let the dog out and relax, and that it was much easier to pack up than to set up. One show he actually got out of the stall for a while and went around looking at everyone else's wares. He came back with a handmade knife he paid $300 for! Ay yi yi... I didn't even make $300 that day and he spends it like it's nothing. No more show shopping for him. |

My DH will do anything not to go with me. He finds shopping boring and I don't enjoy it when I know he's waiting for me.
Mine too. And I don't want him to go either. But we have not been joined at the hip....ever. sandy |
My DW often comes along. But I have the outings to 1 to 3 or 4. That is about her limit. I also try to add in something that interests her.
