I'll have to give that a shot.

What a great idea!

I would not put any type of cleaner on the disks unless your machine manual mentions oiling the tension disks. This could
seriously cause some damage to those parts. WD 40 has been
known to attract dust and make it gum up more. I would just
use the dollar bill or the tulle.

Never heard of this. Great tip. I'll have to try this. This tip needs to go into the tips thread.

I use their 100% cotton thread for piecing & quilting. Have had no problems with it.

Everyone has their favorite thread.

Wow! You guys are amazing!! I've been sewing FOREVER and never knew that you needed to clean the tension discs. Just shows to go you (LOL), you CAN teach an old dog new tricks!:-)

Another proof that quilting is more expensive in Canada! LOL

Great tip! Thank for sharing....

 Really?? Pulling oil through the tension discs? Sounds like oil stains would wind up on the thread and quilt, along with messed up tension because it got too slippery in there. I could easily be wrong...

I use a Swiffer Sweeper refill sheet and glide it between the discs.

I was having bobbin thread problems and found that when I used a different thread on the top than on the bobbin it caused a bad stitch. When I used the same on both the top and bottom it stopped.

quiltingnana1 05-30-2011 07:24 PM

Learned something new today.

I used to use Triflow on my Pfaff, it made it run very quite. However, I found out later that over time it will bum up your machine, so be careful with triflow.

The dollar bill is cotton fabric anyway.......basically

What is triflow?

luce321 05-31-2011 03:25 PM

Thanks for the tip about flossing with a dollar bill. I will certainly try it.

luce321 05-31-2011 03:32 PM

The tension discs have a dial with numbers where the thread passes thru as you thread the machine.

Tweety2911 05-31-2011 03:36 PM

What an interesting idea. Will remember that for sure. Thanks for sharing this tip.

cny_sewer39 05-31-2011 05:15 PM

LOL I have only been gone from Canada two years and I had forgotten that already. Do you have a two dollar bill tucked away somewhere - I used to :)

CarrieAnne 06-01-2011 06:32 AM

Thanks for the tip!

I also would never use "oil" ....howeve; dollar bills have natural human oil just from our hands, no worries.

Damienvon3 06-01-2011 04:36 PM

Great Tip! Thanks!

betlinsmom 06-05-2011 10:36 AM

Oh my gosh!! WHAT is wrong with coats and clark thread???? I am almost scared to hear...

Not sure it would work. US bills are not made of paper - they are made of cotton. Are Canadian bills made out of paper or cotton?

I shall have to try that, thanks

auntiehenno 06-20-2011 05:51 AM

Money is dirty and I would not want that in my machine.
