That is wonderful but how do you find out how many kids are in the shelter so no one is left out. I need to find me a cause such as yours. God Bless you!

PattyS 12-09-2010 05:15 AM

What a blessing to these children you are at this Christmas Season of Giving!
God Bless

angelarose 12-09-2010 05:16 AM

Blessings,

How wonderful. The appreciation must have made you feel good - after all this is the season of giving and goodwill.

I give you my congratulations on being a wonderful person.

lillybeck 12-09-2010 05:20 AM

What a great way to make the day for those kids.God will send blessings your way. Merry Christmas

It is wonderful that you gave so much and there is nothing more comforting when you are alone in the world than a quilt. For those of you with a few extra dollars, after the xmas sales in early January, there will be lots of children s coats, shoes, socks, mittens, hats etc. Especially at WalMart, Kmart and Target they are reasonable to start with and dirt cheap after those sales. One year I called the shelter for sizes and one of the items purchased was a pair of those pink tennies that flashes when you walk. They tell me the little girl refused to take them off and showed them to everyone that came in. Meant more to me than the $100+ gifts I gave to my own grandchildren. They also need shampoo, lotions, toothpaste, brushes, etc. visit your dollar store. Just think that many of the people there fled with just the clothes on their backs, kids without shoes in their mothers arms. They need everything!

I'm with you Debbie!!!! I don't seem to have enough time to sew as many quilts as I want to but love to give what I can and hope that after the holidays I can do more. It is also a great way to learn new skills.

stitchofclass2 12-09-2010 05:44 AM

Wonderful, just wonderful. Good for you.

There is a book called "The Butterfly Effect" by Andy Andrews. He spoke at our Women of Faith conference. The book is about one man we never heard of and how he influenced the lives of people down through history, one after the other, who made some incredible contributions to our country.

No, you may never know what influence you had, but trust me, those quilts will touch the lives of at least one of these children that will perhaps change our current future for the better. That should make you feel extra happy with what you have so generously given.

The abused women's shelter is my pet-charity for quilts, and your note has inspired me to get busy!!! Out of curiosity, did you put labels on all the quilts?

sewing4kix 12-09-2010 05:47 AM

The world could use more like you. That is the true spirit of Christmas :)

katyquilter 12-09-2010 05:48 AM

You are a wonderful person to do that. May you have a happy holiday season.

SandraD 12-09-2010 06:04 AM

That is so increadibly sweet. I have a shelter near my home too. I've brought them home baked goodies in the past but I really love your idea. I think I'm going to 'steal' it and try this next year. You are a saint! Thanks for sharing.

JAGSD 12-09-2010 06:12 AM

What a beautiful blessing you are! You have touched many lives and each child and woman who receives one of these will be so full of joy at receiving a beautiful comfort.
Thank you for sharing.

libertykm 12-09-2010 06:13 AM

What a great way to give at Christmas. I think I will work on quilts this year, using the flannel I got on sale at Joann's on Black Friday. I bought enough to make quite a few quilts. What size did you make? I'm new and want to make the easiest most economical quilts I can. I don't know how to actually quilt, so I will probably have to tie. Don't know how to do that either but will figure out. If you have any good advise it would be appreciated. What about ragged, would that be good.

purrfectquilts 12-09-2010 06:21 AM

Nice thing to do and very worthwhile. Thanks for your time and resources. I know how much they were appreciated. Have a Blessed day!

Big Red 12-09-2010 06:50 AM

What a beautiful thing you have done! Each child will love there new blanket! Something warm to cuddle up in! God bless you!

mistycatbaby 12-09-2010 07:27 AM

I'm sure that Blankie is going to be something each child treasures. What an amazingly wonderful gift.

Know what you mean. I gave 50 baby quilts to a friend for newborns. I found out later that her coworkers went thru the quilts and one girl took a quilt with a cat print because 'her cat would just love it". No more donations there. I make quilts for babies not for cats!

Dixieldy 12-09-2010 08:26 AM

May G-d bless you dear sweet lady for such a wonderful contribution. I am sure those momas and little children really appreciated it. It does feel good to give, but even better when you know they appreciate it.

cbuchanan 12-09-2010 08:29 AM

With all that's said about losing the spirit of Christmas with shopping, cooking, decorating, over-spending, you read something like this and you say, "Yes, Charlotte, there is a God."...to change the wording a little. When we remember that we give gifts as the Magi gave to the Christ child, then gifts like yours show the true meaning of giving and the reason for the season. You are already blessed by the season.

 The Red Rose Quilt Guild in PA that I was a member of donated over 150 quilts to the buse Center each year. Every child that came throuh the door received a quilt. They also worked with the Police and Fire stations to supply children and familes in need. It was a wonderful partnership.

Your experience strengthens my believe that quilts are a "gift of love".

Thank you for share !!!!!!!!!!

You are going to run the angels quilt shop in heaven. Happy holidays.

buckeyegirl 12-09-2010 02:07 PM

I know the feeling. I've been making quilts for a local women's resource center where I live for a while. When I walk in, it's wonderful to hear, "Oh, good, it's the quilt lady." I don't have much room for a big stash, and making these quilts is how I keep the stash manageable.

adrigram 12-09-2010 02:11 PM

You really do have a BIG heart...I'm not sure I would have donated again after that first disappointment. You are an inspiration to us all, I'm sure. God bless you many times over!

goldsberry921 12-09-2010 02:14 PM

May you be infinetly blessed!!!

I agree wholeheartedly with what you are doing. I have taken a total of 25 lap quilts to the local nursing home for their wheel chair patients and again, just like you, you would have thought they were made of gold. They were gone practically as soon as I laid them on the counter and of course I left with just a wonderful feeling. I quilt nearly every day and whenever I get about 7 or so I make a trip to the nursing home. They are so thankful for them and they are so needed.

You are an inspiration!

Mar_ie 12-09-2010 02:55 PM

What a lovely thing you have done. A long time ago I had to get out with my family and start from nothing and I can tell you that your quilts would have meant so very much to us. Hope you have a wonderful Christmas.

shelrox 12-09-2010 04:02 PM

this is something that is on my wish list to do along with pillows and pillow cases.. congrats to you

YES IT IS, CHECK OUT BINKYPATROL.ORG, OR START ONE UP IN YOUR HOME TOWN. Since I have joined, I love to be able to donate my quilts to a good cause.

Lulu's Mama 12-09-2010 04:40 PM

All you quilters...I make quilts for charity every day. I sew for Project Linus who see to it every quilt goes to a child that "needs a hug," and also make quilts for the "Cover Up" program that gives quilts to abused children. I make small quilts (and some large) for the dogs and cats at the shelter in my area and use up a lot of scraps with those. I would heartily advise your looking into using your talents and love of quilting to spread your love around during these stressful times and make it easier for others. Love to all........Lulu's Mom. p.s. Lulu is a 9 yr old Chihauhau who loves all quilts. You can find her burrowed down under her quilts as I make new ones.
