Don't you just hate it when this happens??

So ... what would you do? I am thinking about just making this the part that goes under the pillows, but I also know it will bug me to death everytime I see it. LOL

Holice 12-21-2011 04:33 AM

what is wrong with it? I don't understand.

LilaKay 12-21-2011 04:36 AM

I made this same pattern last year and did the same thing. I just "unsewed" that 1 block gave it a turn and resewed it. You'll be happier if you fix it now

In the center of the picture is a little green point. Not suppose to be there. :-) I didn't turn the block the right way when I put the row together.

damaquilts 12-21-2011 04:52 AM

LilaKay, I know , You're right but.... sigh... I thought I was done.

Judie 12-21-2011 05:19 AM

oh man.. I do hate it when that happens, but then, I'm just quilter, not God, so it happens to me quite regularly. Maybe I've sewn too long or made too many mistakes, but I don't let it bother me, I just rip it out, correct it, sew it back in, and then I'm happy.. If I don't then every single time I look at it, that's what I'll see. Once it's done, you won't mind the time and trouble it was to change it.

coldquilter 12-21-2011 05:58 AM

I hate when I do stuff like that and you are right, it would bug me forever if I didn't just change it now.

valleyquiltermo 12-21-2011 06:04 AM

I do this often enough and so does my sewing friend. We just laugh and reverse stitch it then were happier.
So get to it you'll be happy you did.

Delta 12-21-2011 06:05 AM

I don't see anything wrong. It will make a difference when you quilt it. looks great now.

damaquilts 12-21-2011 06:06 AM

So consensus is the frog stitch and redo. lol Ok I will add that to my list today.

Lori S 12-21-2011 06:19 AM

Oh .. I do feel your pain... having done the same thing on more than one occasion.... Redo/resew the block that is out of its proper position. It make take some time , but it will be less than the time you will be reminded of this mistake by leaving it .
When I find myself in this position and so.. want to just leave it ! I have to tell myself even if it takes 8 hours thats is less than the lifetime of looking at it and knowing the mistake is there. But I am compulsive that way ...
Your quilt is beautiful!

lfstamper 12-21-2011 06:22 AM

This is why me and Mr. Ripper are such good friends. Fix it now as you will always see it even under the pillow...lol. It is so pretty!

Tartan 12-21-2011 06:39 AM

I would just pick out around that block, leaving everything else sewn together. Just pick out about an inch on all four corners beyond that block and you should be able to turn the block and carefully resew the seams around it. Just be careful to get it in the right way this time before you resew. I've done it wrong again and had to rip again.

ksdot417 12-21-2011 06:47 AM

I made a quilt once and the night before I was supposed to take it to the quilters I laid it out and what was the first thing I saw? A block that had a section turned the wrong way. Well, I ended up tossing and turning and finally got up at four in the morning and took just that section out and turned it the right way. Ended up being one of my favorite quilts - instead of the one that upset me every time I looked at it. I agree with most of the others - I'd rip it out and turn it. You won't regret it.

unclefreckles 12-21-2011 06:57 AM

It will continue to aggravate you if you leave it, so bite that bullet and fix it. Just remember that none of us is perfect or we would not be human.

Quilting Comforts 12-21-2011 07:10 AM

The first time this happened to me was with flying geese. One of the boarders had the geese flying in opposite direction as the others. It was explained that in the past some quilter's actually made one block with a mistake on purpose. This was refered to as the "humility" block. It is your quilt and you will decide what makes you feel better. I try to lay my quilt blocks out either on the design wall or on a bed then I sew one row at a time then take a good look before sewing each row together. I hope this helps.

gramarraine 12-21-2011 07:25 AM

It is a beautiful quilt, it would always make you feel bad if you don't change it. I did an irish chain quilt recently and turned 1 block the wrong way. I didn't see it until it had been quilted and I was putting the binding on. The quilter however, did see it and just let it go. If she had shown me I could easily have changed it or she could have fixed it for me. My grand daughter pointed it out to me the other day, it is right in the middle of the quilt. Now that I know where it is everytime I see the quilt I will see the mistake and not be able to enjoy the beauty of the quilt.

jillnjo 12-21-2011 07:40 AM

I would fix it, too. It would bug me and I'd see it every time I looked at the quilt. It makes me think of when I use to wall-paper and would have a spot that didn't work out perfect on my uneven walls. Oh, I hated that and would see it for a long time, although I don't think others did. Those "mistakes" I had to live with, but you can make this perfect and you'll never regret it!

Charleen DiSante 12-21-2011 08:05 AM

Yep, I hate it when that happens. If you leave it, it may haunt you but it probably won't matter to the recipient. I was reminded recently that they don't look for the mistakes, they just like that we made it for them. (Note to self, repeat the advice and then listen to it!) :)

Raggiemom 12-21-2011 08:13 AM

I love the fabric you've used, very pretty.

Well its now been fixed . Since the recipient is ME , for a change, I would have seen it every time I made the bed. Now I still have to figure out how to quilt it and what to do with the borders.

SueSew 12-21-2011 08:48 AM

From my experience, if I walk away until I calm down and stop kicking myself, I can do a pretty good 'blockectomy' and afterward it really doesn't seem too painful.
It's a gorgeous print and lovely pattern - good luck!

Ditto.... easy fix.

fmhall2 12-21-2011 10:44 AM

I don't see anything wrong with it.

mucky 12-21-2011 04:32 PM

If it's for you unsew it and fix.

katydidkg 12-22-2011 03:32 AM

I'd fix it now. I think we are our own worst critics and you probably won't be happy unless that block is perfect.

jitkaau 12-22-2011 04:10 AM

I would pull it apart so that the pattern was correct. "Someone" would be bound to notice the point is in the wrong place and then it would nag at you - so perhaps take it out before you do more work on it?

IBQLTN 12-22-2011 05:24 AM

If it bugs you, then I'd say rip it out if it will keep you from enjoying the masterpiece on your bed. Otherwise, leave it. It took me probably 15 seconds of studying to figure out what was wrong.

quiltdragon 12-22-2011 05:25 AM

Take a deep breath!

Do it, do it, do it!!!! I promise it won't take nearly as long as you think, and you'll be so glad you did. Your quilt is beautiful (love the colours) and if you just rotate that block, instead of being irritated whenever you see it you'll have a warm glow of satisfaction!

Ooops! I see you already did! Bet you feel better!

jeanneb52 12-22-2011 05:37 AM

It's well worth the fix. It is so nice! I love the spring look.

Pieces2 12-22-2011 05:41 AM

I would redo that block. I would make a new block because when you rip it out the fabric is going to stretch. Be sure to stay stitch your other abric to prevent stretching.

DJ 12-22-2011 07:05 AM

Just one? I recently made that pattern and after sewing several rows together, I discovered several blocks turned the wrong way! Yours is just beautiful! Glad you got in and fixed it. That's what I would have wanted to do.

countrycousin 12-22-2011 07:23 AM

It is frustrating to plan out a quilt and then something goes wrong. Well hopefully it can be fixed if that is what you are going to do.

Murphy 12-22-2011 07:31 AM

I am sure you will be happier if you just unsew and fix it now (smile). Not fun, but will make you feel much better in the end. Beautiful fabric and pattern. Thank you for sharing.

Now comes the rest, pinning, and quilting . Well it will have to wait until after the holiday maybe . Depends on how irritating everyone is I may disappear into my sewing room. LOL. There are advantages to being older and not healthy.... I can be anti social and its expected. :-)

LindaDeeter 12-22-2011 07:45 AM

I love the colors ... so pretty & springy! Whatever is bugging you ... fix it now and move on! You'll be glad you did! :)

quiltingshorttimer 12-22-2011 08:12 AM

I would probably do as suggested and redo the block before I quilted--but I have to say that I recently was the winner of the BOM in my quild and had always been hesitant to do the BOM as I didn't feel confident enough that anyone would want MY blocks--well, when I was putting the BOM together for a Christmas throw I realized one was done incorrectly and had about the same problem as your block--I left it to remind me that we all make mistakes and not to freak about those that I make!
