Darlene Zimmerman has a new double wedding ring template/ruler (EZ quilt or Simplicity). She demoed, looked real easy to use.

I made Judy Martin's 'Monet's Wedding Ring' quilt. It's beautiful in stark white with batiks, and there's no special cutting tools needed!

I went to McCallsquilting.com and I was able to download and print out the instructions for a finished 69 1/2 X 84 1/2 Dbl Wedding Ring quilt and print the templates for paper piecing. I have not made it yet as I am getting the material to do so. Go to this site and see what you think.

I am making my first one now. I'm using the Feed Sack Wedding ring from The classic american quilt book by rodale. Lots of cutting but jelly rolls help. I just cut the templates from plastic and cut them with scissors from several stacked together. 1500 pieces. I tried a paper piecing one and didn't like it. This one goes together pretty easy.

I did a DWR with various yellow pirnts w/little bit of red for the curves. Intersection were red...really popped. Gave it to a friend for her 50th wedding anny but unfortunatly lost her husband two years before their anny. Finised it any way and never told her the real reason for the gift.

Would like to make another one for me but not sure of the color scheme.

This time I will use Marti Michelle's templates. The dots help to keep you from sewing too far and then having to unsew.

Don't be afraid of the pattern. Just decided if it will be scrappy or a planned color scheme.

I used the John Flynn method,I thought it was easy.Loved doing it.

You have a picture of my hydrangea at the corner of our house! I have a picture just like that

I have made 3 double wedding ring quilts, and once you "get the Hang" of what to do, it goes very easily. The big issue is to make sure you measure and mark accurately, and use lots of pins when you put it together. There are some acrylic templates at JoAnn Fabrics for the pattern, which are durable enought to last for the whole process of cutting out the piecesfor the quilt - I believe they may be by Sharlene Jorganson. Mine had two sets - one for the actual pieced rings, and one for solid color rings.
Good quilting, and post a picture when you get it done.

I also used Shar Jorgenson's templates and book, I had a very easy time making this quilt. I made one back in 1984 that I had to cut each piece out one at a time. You had to trace around a sand-paper template. That one took me 2 years to complete.

I bought this too but haven't done anything with it yet. Have to finish other WIPs first.

I made one for my son and his bride. Never again! I used the Quilt in a Day method and I think it took longer than if I were to just do it the older way. I don't have a pic on this computer or I would post one.

Do you know someone with an AccuQuilt machine? They could cut all of the pieces for you quickly. I have the dies for the Double Wedding Ring and it is a snap to cut!!

Linda B 08-19-2010 09:30 PM

You might want to take a look at Judy Neimeyer's paper piecing pattern for the double wedding ring, the one that uses Bali batiks. I saw this quilt at the AQS show in Knoxville and georgeous does not begin to describe that quit. Someone on this board is making this quilt now, I think. I really, really want to get that pattern.

Annya 08-20-2010 02:20 AM

I just tried to see Simply Quilts. It said video can't be found. That is OK I have it some where any way. I would like to do it one day too, but not yet.

Aunt Bea,

I am cutting mine by hand too. Hope mine turns out as well as yours has. I enjoy the time I spend cutting out pieces by hand. It is so peaceful and soothing to my body and soul.

Several yers ago I cut and hand pieced the wedding ring. It was well worth the time and effort; I followed the directions exactly (which for me is unusual) and am very pleased the quilt. Good Luck.

I highly recommend the Quilting from the Heartland/Omni template set (By Shar Jorgenson) There is a complete set of rotary cutter templates and step by step directions. Plus several different ways to do the rings. THere is a one piece arc as well as the pieced arc.
I have used it and it all worked really well.

i had tryed to follow instructions for many different double wedding ring quilts i would get very upset because i could not get the peices to match up i finally asked my aunt who has been quilting for over 50 yrs and she told me she had never attempted a wedding ring quilt because it is a very hard pattern after hearing this i was very scared of the wedding ring pattern but i went to a site called mccals quiting patterns and found the double wedding ring templates and instructions i started one last week and i have the quilt top almost finish in a weeks time it is so easy with this pattern i will never be affraid again , i showed the quilt to my aunt and she asked how did you get that much of it done in such a short time. i am telling you it has been so easy and moves right along you really dont relize how far you have gotten intil you stop and look please try it kim

thanks Butterflywing. I just printed what I could of the tutoral from Patrice, but was unable to get the pattern to download to my computer. It is not found. I am having a lot of problems with all my downloads lately.

butterflywing 08-21-2010 07:41 PM

are you trying to download the right 'download'? it's the first one, where it says GRAPHICS, not on the bottom line, but on the line above that, all the way to the right.

i can't download that bottom line either.

Annya 08-22-2010 12:49 AM

OK thanks I will try it. I did print the instructions-most of them but no pattern. I found that there are 5 site pages to go through but I will do that tomorrow. I am tired as we went out to the Outback Spectacular last night at the Gold Coast. Well worth the second time too. Took SIL since he wasn't here in February when the girls took us for our 40th.
I tried to download where you said but it still wont come up. I don't have graphic on my computer to print out. Has any one got the pattern that they can email me please. I have all the other information I printed them out but can't download for some reason. This is not the only thing I can not do either. I am disappointed too, been trying to gt it for years and the the instructions are easy to follow.

the real misfit 08-22-2010 09:48 AM

if you send me your address i will put a copy of the templates and instruction in the mail for you tommorrow

butterflywing 08-22-2010 10:32 AM

I also used this set and also recommend it. The DWR is a tedious one to sew but the results are SEW worth it!

I used a template set which would allow you to make the arches all one fabric or small individual pieces in the arches. I made one for my sister using the single print fabric arches with a solid color connecting piece. The resulting quilt, which was a wedding gift for my older sister who remarried after 31 years as a widow, is my avitar.
