I use any and all fabrics for D9P which is what it is designed for but I agree with this member I feel the centre square must be the same and I must admit to using a eye popper fabric.

These were my 3 DP9 quilts that I made. The first 2 yellow shade quilts were used all fabrics that I had in my stash and the last one I bought charm pack from J0-Ann Fabrics Store. Please take a look......

I really like the 1930's fabrics, the white or solid color tones are good mixed in with the prints.

I love all the quilts pictured!! I am leaning towards a white center block or maybe a sea foam green.

Here is a scrappy D9P. I especially like this setting when you're doing scrappy:

If you don't want to have a constant like white, then be sure to have very good contrast between your two fabric colors.

Here is a D4P using a white paired up with scrappy 30's fabrics:
