OK, here's the deal - got a drawer full of extra blocks (different sizes, colors, patterns, etc) accummulated over the years from finished quilts. Want to something with them, but what??? The only thing they have in common is they are all square. The only think I can think of is to make them all the same size by extending them with a solid color (black, maybe?).
All suggestions, ideas, etc greatly appreciated, no matter how B-zar, thanks, ya'll |
That's exactly what I would do....make it look scrappy with different but coordinating colors of frames around the blocks.

Wow! A drawer dull-? How fun!! :) I'd do a scrappy sampler. Add filler pieces, etc. to make it all work.

I think connecting with different sized sashes between each one (to make them fit) will look cool-and if black is a good color with the rest of the blocks, go for it! It will be a great sampler! Lets see it when you decide and make it! You can get an idea what it will look like by laying out a big sheet of black, then arranging the blocks on top-try different layouts to see what looks best, then you know!

A Scrappy is what come to mind

Any leftovers, make pot holders.

Go out an buy "Setting Solutions" by Sharyn someone. Let me look it up. everyone should have this book. she shows you how to set odd size blocks, odd numbers of blocks (like 17), odd color blocks. Well, you get it.
edited to add, here's the amazon listing http://www.amazon.com/Setting-Soluti...5870227&sr=8-1 author is Sharyn Craig worth every penny |
I love the idea of a sampler quilt with specially made/cut filler pieces to fill any holes. (4-patch-posies might be ideal for this purpose.)
Vanuatu Jill is right on when she suggests laying them out on top of something black to see how they'll look when you put them together. |
If you are done with them maybe donate them to a good cause or if you want $ sell them on the baord. Can you put some blocks together, like four 6 1/2 in. blocks next to a 12 1/2 inch block? I don't know if I would want all that filler from the sashing. How about putting same size blocks all together to make one project or lap quilt? Or if you want a larger quilt put all same size blocks as a center and tehn put the other same size blocks around it, like all 12 1/2 in. blocks to make a center and all the 6 1/2 in. blocks around it like a border.

Hiya,
I did this with a large bin of orphans I had amassed.I first sorted everything and put like with like. The I started a medallion and worked outward in sections.I added strips and squares to get about the same size.It helps to have a big floor to work on and your tape measure gets a workout.I finished mine with a medium width solid border and called it done.Let me know if I can help...
