Drinking wine really does help with quilting!

I needed to cut a fabric circle and a 3 inch circle seemed too big to fit in the 5 inch square and the 2 inch seemed too small. What to do, what to do? Hmmmm.... Well looky there!---my wine glass base is exactly the right circle size! I knew I could justify that glass somehow!

dunster 01-05-2014 07:34 PM

And of course you have to drain the glass before you can use it as a template, right? Works for me.

deedum 01-05-2014 07:56 PM

A new quilting tool! I like that. I think I will have some wine now!

Jackie Spencer 01-05-2014 07:59 PM

LoL.....I just love this board!!

quiltingcandy 01-05-2014 08:02 PM

All items should have more than one purpose.

Mrs Finch 01-05-2014 09:59 PM

I wish you lived closer to me!!

DOTTYMO 01-06-2014 12:25 AM

I think free motion quilting and a glass of wine go very well together as well

Yes, plus a CD with a nice waltz LOL

Capri 01-06-2014 01:08 AM

Your's was the first post I read after having just taken my first sip as I sat down! Needless to say I nearly lost the lot all over the screen lol You've made my day!

klaws 01-06-2014 04:55 AM

I'll second that!!!

Joset 01-06-2014 05:34 AM

lol i think that is a fantastic idea

mighty 01-06-2014 07:25 AM

Bottoms up, LOL

AngeliaNR 01-06-2014 08:10 AM

We look at bathroom tiles as design inspiration and common household objects as potential templates--we quilters are full of imagination! :)

sew4nin 01-06-2014 08:12 AM

I always have at least 1 glass of wine when I FMQ. It helps my lines of stitching flow and keeps my muscles from tightening up!

KimmerB 01-07-2014 05:49 AM

I knew about using the glass part but never thought of drinking it first. I'd probably sew my fingers to the quilt then not want to cut them out cause I'd wreck the square I was working on. LOL ☺

meanmom 01-07-2014 06:00 AM

I need to take one of those quilting tools up to my sewing room. I always use my Tupperware lids for circles. I like your idea better.

Patchwork Pam 01-07-2014 06:18 AM

Hhhmmm, made me think of an old song. "Bottle of wine, Fruit of the vine......." LOL sorry, gotta go get my glass of wine.!

cat-on-a-mac 01-07-2014 07:18 AM

Great stuff! But I won't ever let myself take the wine glass into the sewing room (at least, when it has wine it it ;)) Just as a precaution .. taking wine spots out of my work is NOT what I want to be doing!

kayutanurse 01-07-2014 07:32 AM

You're just finding this out???

A quilting tool with benefits!!

MamaBear61 01-07-2014 08:03 AM

Need a bigger circle? Get a bigger wine glass :-)

Marysewfun 01-07-2014 08:19 AM

Leah Day even "prescribes" it if you are too tense to flow with the free motion quilting. :-)

And here I was thinking that you got smashed and ended up making a crazy quilt. Ha Ha.

gvolle44 01-07-2014 08:45 AM

The real question is, "Red or White?"

francie yuhas 01-07-2014 09:01 AM

Shot glasses are great for creating smaller circles, holding smaller quilting toys, etc. They don't work well, until after " fully tested".

notmorecraft 01-07-2014 09:13 AM

As long as it's white wine, it doesn't stain lol, red can be a bit dodgy, don't ask about the pink blotch/stain on the cream background of my lovely christmas Wall Hanging, white wine only in sewing room in future.

basketcru 01-07-2014 09:35 AM

I'll drink to that!

NanaCsews2 01-07-2014 09:36 AM

And THAT's why we drink...
You people are funny.

Caswews 01-07-2014 10:12 AM

Well heavens to Betsy .. I finally have an excuse errr reason to have wine LOL with my sewing !!
But honey I need the base to make circles <GRIN> .. LOL

Caution Do not operate heavy machinery when in that mode !LOL

G'ma Kay 01-07-2014 11:04 AM

I completely agree! Besides sewing, my husband and I have two acres of grapevines, so we make a little wine. I find wine breaks often make the free motion quilting go smoother. I do not take the wine into the sewing room, having had to get stains out once, but it is a required sewing notion.

MadQuilter 01-07-2014 11:10 AM

Right! If you drink plenty, you don't really care if your seams are off. lol

Charming 01-07-2014 12:01 PM

What a smart thinker and I can't agree more that drinking wine helps with quilting ;-)

MargeD 01-07-2014 12:16 PM

I like your thinking - quilters find their tools in the most unusual places, and of course you have to drink the wine first so that nothing gets onto the quilt. Great idea.

maryb119 01-07-2014 12:25 PM

LOL! Great use of resources....

I totally agree !!! CHEERS to everyone !!!

JanieH 01-07-2014 03:05 PM

Great idea - must buy wine glasses - and wine bottles as the bottom of them would give me another size option - and must first drink the wine as wouldn't want it spilling all over the fabric.

Okay, I have a plan!

Gannyrosie 01-07-2014 03:17 PM

Just what is needed in this cold weather.

deedum 01-07-2014 05:29 PM

After reading this thread, I think I will have some wine:) Seems red is my favorite color, might as well start there!

Beer don't hurt either!

mumzer 01-07-2014 07:57 PM

I am joining you with a whiskey sour glass lol. Especially if you are making a rag quilt. Sew a few sip a few.
