Mine are "organized" by dropping in a paper bag---what gets pulled, gets used (unless it's the same print)

Use a color wheel if ya need. I just put together all the blues, aquas, pinks, berry colors, greens but not olive green lavender an purples in one pile, and yellows reds, olive greens oranges browns blacks in another pile. Take pile and lay it out and add to it whatever u think would look nice with it. But that is my base for a scrappy quilt. Hope this helps.

...and Woolworth's too! I bet youngsters on this board don't know what we are talking about......just like sometimes the cyber stuff makes my eyes glaze over!

That's the best way

There is no such thing as a dumb question, particularly in quilting. I put my scraps in color groups and then match them, that to me, look good together. Not too scientific, but whatever works...

I much prefer making and admiring scrappy quilts than quilts that are made from one line of fabric, sometimes I think they can be too matchy matchy. Using one unifying color works well to blend everything together ,like in my avatar quilt, the white makes it all work.I also like using scrap of all the same color, like many shades of blue together.

I love the scrappys. save my scraps and dream. but, I can't do scrappy. guess its ocd or something, but sewing pieces together randomly makes me nervous.

ann31039, scrappy doesn't have to be random. If you want to use up some of those scraps (that you've paid perfectly good $$ for) instead of using just one blue fabric, for example, use several -- or many! -- different blues. It can add a lot of interest in the quilt but since each blue patch is in the same position within the block it's less anxiety-provoking to do.

I find pieces that are the same size and if it looks good together, I use it. I might use certain colors in the same quilt. Or I might you all brights..whimsical, browns/blues/yellow, etc.
