I made a bunch of pot holders using just 9 inch muslin cut in squares and string piece it with my scraps which I have sorted by color. I start in the middle diagonal and then keep sewing strips till I get one side filled then I do the other
side. Sometimes I use all dark on one side and all light scraps on the other side. You can use the same technique to make a large quilt. For the quilt you can put lattice in between them like black or white or any other color. It would look stunning!
