Early Christmas Present!

2 Attachment(s)
My DH bought me a new sewing machine for Christmas .... an Elna 740 eXcellence!!!!!

This machine is so BIG and beautiful ... the throat-space is a whole 11 INCHES!!!!

And it comes with 17 different feet ... and every one of them has its own little niche!
No extra baggies or boxies to store all the accesories ..... everything has a place specially designed to fit in.
I have sewn a few stitches ... trying out a few of the feet .... and I can tell you now .... I will love and bless my darling DH every day I work on it!!!

It is SO silent, so smooth, so soft, and oh so easy to work with ..... there is a whole rugby-field on the right hand-side compared to my Bernina!
And also ....... no fiddling with the bobbin .... it has a seperate bobbin-winder motor, so you just fill it up and pop it in!!!!!
It has all the bells and whistles I wanted ... and more!!

I love it ... still can't believe its really mine ...!!!! :)

When we got our "inheritance" from our mother, my sis & I each bought the Elna Quilting Queen. I love my machine, and think of my mother often when I am using it. I have had mine for 5 years and have not had a problem with it ever.
Happy Sewing!

Beautiful machine!!! Merry Christmas!

donnalynett 12-20-2011 09:27 AM

I have an older Elna and I swear it works better than my new Viking. The only reason I didn't buy the machine you received is there is no dealer nearby for servicing. I think you will totally love your machine for many years!

Havplenty 12-20-2011 09:37 AM

really nice machine. merry christmas to you. have fun discovering your new toy.

fmhall2 12-20-2011 10:12 AM

What a wonderful Christmas present, and what a wonderful husband. Was it a surprise, or did you help pick it out? Many years of happy sewing on it.

She is a beauty! Years ago I had one of the first computerized Elna's "The Club" It was a good machine. Unfortunately, the LQS that sold and serviced the machine closed and there was no Elna dealership anywhere convenient. I moved on to another machine, but didn't get an Elna, I stuck with a brand that I coulde gtet serviced locally.

tallchick 12-20-2011 06:11 PM

Can't believe how many feet you have with it. Unbelievable!! I have the Bernina 830 and don't have near the feet. I need to get some more feet. Which ones do you really like and think is a must?

sewnsewer2 12-20-2011 07:36 PM

Merry Christmas to you! Congrats!!

Grandma Peg 12-20-2011 08:00 PM

A few weeks ago, I was just chatting to him about the differences and similarities between my current Bernina, the new Bernina and this Elna ... but I never dreamed he was listening so attentively!!! hehehe :D

Apart from the 1/4-inch foot, and the walking foot, I mostly use the open toe applique foot, the couching foot, and the multi-cord foot, but this is because I like to do lots of embellishment on my crazy patches.

The 3 FMQ-feet that came with the machine I will probably use for small projects like mug-rugs, or fabric postcards.

The bigger projects I do on the New Joy quilt frame I got for my birthday in June.

I think I might have to start sewing garments again ... otherwise the other feet might feel left out ..... don't want no squabbling between siblings, you know...??? hehehehehe

sewbeadit 12-20-2011 10:57 PM

Wonderful, Merry Christmas! I hadn't heard of an Elna in years, I didn't think they still made them, isn't that weird? I know in the past they were excellent machines and should be now as well. You are a very lucky person!

Lucky lucky you! U must of been a very good girl this year!!

Yooper32 12-21-2011 02:20 AM

It is a far cry from my old Elna, bought in 1964. But even though I am green, I must say that my Elna has never been in a shop, never had a single problem with her and will never part with her. Right now she is on loan to my youngest daughter whose "cheapie" machine gave out on her as she was trying to put together her very first quilt top. I sure do envy you all that throat area though. What a wonderful time you are going to have, playing around and finding new and exciting things to do with that machine.

calano1 12-21-2011 03:55 AM

Goodness Donna, 1964????? Your machine is almost indestructible .....!!!!
I will look after mine well ...... sure hope it lasts that long!!

StarofMoonDancer 12-21-2011 04:34 AM

littlesurfer 12-21-2011 04:48 AM

GladGrams 12-21-2011 06:33 AM

Lucky you! This is one of the nicest and most practical machines I have ever seen with the way the feet are stored. Wishing a new year full of wonderful hours with your new computerized friend.
