Easiest Quilt Block You've Ever Made?

My quilting group is having its fall retreat and wants everyone to submit the easiest quilt block they know. Mine would be the 10 minute block, or a simple 4 patch. What would yours be?

mucky 08-08-2012 04:50 PM

5 minute block is easier

nwm50 08-08-2012 04:53 PM

4 patch is quickier and easier but ive tried the 5 min block and it was fun once i got the concept of it.

dakotamaid 08-08-2012 05:29 PM

Anything I can strip piece and slice again! Rail fence, warm wishes, etc. :)

auntpiggylpn 08-08-2012 05:30 PM

I guess I would have to say the snowball block. Even though there are a few extra steps, I find it quite easy to do!

bearisgray 08-08-2012 05:34 PM

A nice piece of fabric cut into the desired shape. (one piece block)

katier825 08-08-2012 05:56 PM

Disappearing 9-patch.

Buckeye Rose 08-08-2012 06:14 PM

10 minute block for me....so fast and easy....and so simple to make it personal for recipient.

Exactly what I was thinking! .....

Lori S 08-08-2012 06:30 PM

Rail fence was the easiest I ever made.

Tartan 08-08-2012 07:17 PM

Now you know you will have to bring a solid piece/block of fabric for the easiest block as a gag. I think the easiest block I enjoy the most is the Snowball block.

quiltsRfun 08-08-2012 07:20 PM

What's the difference between the 5-minute block and the 10-minute block?

Dolphyngyrl 08-08-2012 07:53 PM

rail fence hands down

Turning Twenty----------easy to sew, easy to trim

It is "easy" to do, but time consuming IMO.

5 minutes????????????

Sorry about that! I need more coffee

Stitchnripper 08-09-2012 04:42 AM

I have made the snowball block, disappearing 9 patch, 10 minute block, and a turning twenty quilt, but my favorite easiest is the rail fence.

northerncreations 08-09-2012 04:44 AM

I've done both 10 minute block and rail fence -- think 10 minute block is easier/faster. Enjoy your retreat.

teddysmom 08-09-2012 04:52 AM

What is the 10-minute block?

WilliP 08-09-2012 04:54 AM

To be honest for me it is hand pieced drunkard's path.

hopetoquilt 08-09-2012 05:19 AM

Floating stars is simple and different...

Tartan 08-09-2012 05:21 AM

I believe the 10 minute block that they are referring to is the one that has the 4 patch background with a the 3D block in the center. It resembles the Bow Tie block and may also be under the name easy Bow Tie or Faux Bow Tie block. The person who came out with a book and a You tube video on making the 5 minute block is same person the did the 10 minute block. The 5 minute block is the same one that Ricky Tims demonstrates as the easy Flying Geese block. OR it could be another block...that is the trouble when people use a name that is already taken or rename a technique.

My favorite is one I call a wonky crazy or log cabin. Start with a five sided shape and then add strips or chunks of fabric around it. Can be used in so many ways and is a real stash buster!

Yes! I'm sure a few of our members will do this - including me :)

sewmary 08-09-2012 12:27 PM

Rail fence, hands down. No seams to match.

DeniseP 08-09-2012 03:03 PM

I like rail fence, too.

ShabbyTabby 08-09-2012 03:07 PM

four patch from a charm pack....

My time 08-10-2012 02:48 AM

I concur one of the easiest is the Rail Fence. No seam to line up!

CathieB 08-10-2012 03:58 AM

Double Slice Layer Cake (Missouri Quilt Company)

Latrinka 08-10-2012 04:16 AM

Log cabin blocks.

Vat 08-10-2012 04:24 AM

I guess a 4 patch but I don't think about what is easy just what I like.

maviskw 08-10-2012 04:57 AM

I still would like to know what a 5 minute block and what a 10 minute block look like. Could someone post a picture?

Ditto, my fellow quilter!

MdmSew'n'Sew 08-10-2012 05:46 AM

The 5 minute block (it is the subject of a thread in, I think, the Tutorial section here) is similar to the one-seam flying geese block (google it) except that you can do it with three rectangles of the same size, it it so easy and it can be turned into a ten minute block by sewing two together. It is one of my favorite easy blocks, along with anything I can do with paper piecing, the only way I can guarantee that points line up and don't get lost in the seam allowance, etc.

Drunkard's Path using the Curvemaster foot. Less than a minute per block.

Could you please tell us more about the curvemaster foot, how it works, price, where to buy, how to use and maybe a photo? Thanks

LenaBeena 08-10-2012 06:44 AM

You Tube has both the 5 and 10 minute blocks shown and explained. You can also buy the books.

jcrow 08-10-2012 06:52 AM

I think the 9 patch is pretty easy, but then I guess you'd have to say the rail fence is easier because it comes from that.

Wonky Star block. I can cut and sew the 12 15" blocks for a twin-size quilt in less than 4 hours - so about 20 minutes per block.
Big border block. I can cut and sew 20 9"x16" blocks in about 3 hours or less.
