Easy quilt pattern for males ? Suggestions?
 

I just bought about 17 different kinds of fabric ( 3/4 yards each ) to make my husband a quilt . He was in the army and he loves motorcycles so I bought material that represent his army life and cycles. I would welcome any suggestions as to the type of quilt to make for him featuring these fabrics. I think men are a little more difficult to make for ( there is the exception to the rules lol) . I know there are those of you who have been successful in your endeavors . Thanks !!

Attic windows or large block D9P would showcase your specialty fabrics nicely. As would square in a square or large center log cabin.

It's really the fabric that determines a masculine or feminine quilt, unless you are doing appliqué.

This is a super pattern for lots of fabric with designs. It's fun, pretty quick, and has lots of placement options.

Show what you come up with!

Almost any pattern works, except maybe pieced and appliqued flowers. It's the color choices that make the difference. Manly choices tend to be brown and tan, or more earth tone colors. Blue would work, too, without adding pastels other than tans to creams.

All these quilts are lovely.

I'm not sure I totally agree that we are more difficult to make for. I think charsuewilson gave good advice. Just don't make it feminine.
My wife and I made double sized quilts for each of our 2 young grandsons. We used camo fabric with a log cabin pattern. Our son said he was jealous and wanted a camo quilt too, but he didn't want any pink camo. So we agreed to make him a California King with camo. I have a panel with a bear that we'll put in the center and then camo log cabin blocks around the panel. We have some camo jelly rolls we'll use for those. We found a small piece of pink camo that we'll work into the quilt just because he said to not use pink!

There is a Turning Twenty pattern called "Superman" that has some pretty big pieces to show larger prints to advantage. We have made two:

The quilt I'm going to make for myself is going to be made from old plaid flannel shirts I've been buying at thrift stores with a nuetral background-either solid grey or tan flannel- and I'm going to use a Single Irish Chain pattern for the blocks.

After looking at these I immediately ordered the book! :) Beautiful.

I made my son-in-law this Double Slice Layer Cake quilt (from Jenny Doan at MSQC). It looks great if you have close to 20 fabrics. Easy and quick, like all Jenny's quilts.

I made and posted under pictures-can you see the quilt? It is called Bricks and stepping stones. It is on quiltville and is a free pattern.

I just love squares or squares in a square -- I have 3 boys, and as long as I keep the colors to their liking, they love the quilts. Actually, they are always walking around the house with their quilts around them (we keep it at a chilly 66) so I know they love them :)
