What a loss for the entire quilting community. She was such a nice lady.

According to Eleanor Burns quilt in a day web site, it was Eleanor's sister Judy that died. Here is the info:

It is with a sad and heavy heart that I tell you that Eleanor's youngest sister Judy passed away on Tuesday evening. Judy worked for Quilt in a Day for as long as the company was in existence. She was the wholesale/warehouse manager. She wrote these books for Quilt in a Day "Stockings & Small Quilts" and "Courthouse Steps". Judy was also the creator and maker of all the Mini Magnet quilt kits on the website. In the early days, Judy took care of Grant and Orion while Eleanor was on the road promoting her books.

Judy will be greatly missed by all of us at Quilt in a Day. She was a lovely and generous lady and a very good friend.

So sad to hear that. Patricia traveled around the country and did trunk shows and was a delightful lady. She has been to visit here in Southeast KS for the past 10-15 years. She spent one evening in the Methodist Church during a storm with us. Some of the ladies got up and left and the rest of us stayed and said why get out in the storm. She will be missed. Prayers for her family.

I had the opportunity to visit with Judy on the phone several times. She was always so pleasant and personable and she always "talked me through my order". I had hoped one day to meet her in person. She will definitely be missed.

I'm so sad to learn this since I saw her in a presentation at the Lk Havasu City, Az. quilt show in Nov.

Very sad news. I love Eleonor. I met her and her 2 sons in Puyallup a couple of years ago. What great down to earth people. I have quite a collection of her books but didn't realize her sister also did a few. I just recieved the Pioneer Sampler Quilt book in the mail yesterday. Eleonor and family are in my thoughts. Judy will be greatly missed.

Lori S 01-08-2012 09:52 AM

This is certainly sad news. I had the opportunity to speak with her on two occasions , a truly patient and caring person. She made me feel like I was the only person she had to talk to that day, and took great care to ensure my order ( a complicated , special order) was handled correctly.
I watch Eleanor Burns every occasion I can on PBS, many shows she talks of her sisters. My thoughts and prayers are with her family during this sad time.
