Embroidery thread

I have an embroidery machine.....with a Ton of beautiful colors.

Has anyone used embroidery thread in their longarm to quilt with?

What do you think?

Yes and it worked beautifully in my HQ Avante. I used it in the bobbin as well as on top.

I tried but the thread kept breaking. :(

I use a lot of the tri-lobal embroidery threads from this place on the longarm - https://metroemb.com/store/index.php?route=common/home

i suppose that it depends what your thread is made of. some are so fragile, especially if it is old.

My thread is only about 2 years old. No problem with breakage on my embroidery machine. I'm tempted to try it out, but just not sure if I'll like the shean on a quilt or not.
Hm....

Will have to try FMQ w embroidery thread on my long arm machine

Also I saw demonstrations w beautiful (glow in the dark) variegated thread used at the Houston Quilt show on long arm machines
The result was amazing .

I believe Glide was originally marketed as an embroidery thread until Karen McTavish and a couple of other big names discovered it and got the word out. Now they market mostly to quilters but it is a 40wt trilobal polyester. I use glide almost exclusively. I have also used Isacord which is also considered an embroidery thread and the metro/Sigma thread that Dunster linked to. I love the shiny thread in my quilts. It does not overpower and looks beautiful and I find it much stronger than many threads. There is also the added bonus of no lint like is produced from 100% cotton.

Now that you mention it, I'm looking and more than half of my thread is embroidery thread, various brands. At first some were too shiny. For some reason I'm not a fan of glide. I have some, but don't use it very much. Although I did just find some 60 wt. at the LQS. If this comes in colors, I'm in. I won't mind it in the bobbin.
IceLeopard some time you really have to play with the tention to get them to work. I don't have a lot of patience with tention even on the DSM. I can usually use any thread without changing the tention, except metro. When I first started using it I lost patience with it and put it away. Then it had a color I needed, so I worked with it until I got it right. But I hardly ever use it.

I have used EMB thread (Exquisite, Floriani) to quilt on a regular machine. No issues. I also use pre-wound bobbins for the bobbin thread in piecing. No issues.
