Thank you for starting this thread. I have learned so much since I have joined this forumn and laugh also. If it's a little slow at times, I can wait a bit. If anyone cannot accept the wait or inconvenience, they do not have to; they can leave at any time.
My motto in my old age: Don't sweat the small stuff.

I wonder if the people who are complaining read Patricia's tips? After all, there is a post about the maintenance of march 29.

I am not one of the people trying to fix the board, however I am tired of the complaining! Even though all those things are bothering you, you did get on the board to complain! Stop the pressure and let them get their job done as best they can. Working on a computer is more complex than some people can imagine.

To those of you who are working to fix the board and I might add while it is up and running, I for one think that you are doing a wonderful job, I like the changes and appreciate what you have done for the board and in turn for us!

THANK YOU, YOU ARE APPRECIATED.

Sorry TreeFrog, I have to respectfully disagree. I am in a profession that uses computers constantly, and I know that these kind of issues would not be tolerated for more than 24 hours. There is really no excuse for this to have dragged on for this long, in my never-to-be-humble opinion.

Ditto although I profess to be humble (like Jseus and Socrates, right?) I have been either using, building, or selling computer software since the IBM 360 back in the 1960's.
Plus, people logging in to say whether or not they are having timeouts and other problems can assist in finding the source of the problems.
Plus, although we don't get paid to go on the board site, somebody is hopefully getting paid for service or lack thereof. Or is this a charitable endeavor?

Marty K 04-05-2011 10:33 AM

I agree with both sides.....We should be patient and appreciate a free website.....and, they should work to perfect their field of endeavor.....Glad to hear from all of you.....I would miss not being able to connect!!!

I think if you have a problem with something that we all have gotten used to being great..how would others know there is a problem with "the new and the improved" if we don't speak up? I am the first to tell the good about something but will also be the first to tell the bad. If that is making some upset....sorry. Certainly wasn't my intention. When the service is back up and running well...rest assured I will be first to "sing praises". I too appreciate this free site and spend wayyyyyy toooo much time on it.

My hubby owns a computer technology company.. HE and his crew work behind the lines to make computers sinc with the portals.. I for one, know first hand know there are bugs and glitches that are not a 'second' to fix.. 'WHINING and COMPLAINING will not magically make your issues disappear.

SO, I second this:

THANK YOU GEEK SQUAD , YOU ARE SOOOOO APPRECIATED.

And your boss has to pay a fortune for that 'service'.

peaceandjoy 04-05-2011 03:03 PM

Slow service is frustrating - although I didn't know if it was an internet connection or this particular site causing this issue.

What is more annoying, to me, is that adults can't disagree without being snarky.

And although I don't get ads, I thought it was b/c of a popup blocker on my computer, as I've had ads pop up when I was on this site while at other computers? So now I'm wondering - really - how it works?

I think professional use of a computer is a totally different issue. I come here at no cost of my own and I just totally appreciate being able to feed my addiction at no out of pocket expense. So thanks to those who help me with that even though there may be computer issues. Thanks to them for doing their best to fix it.

The owners of this board need to know what is going on from a consumers point of view and convenience with their internet service, Good , Bad or indifferent.

We are consumers.

Titled: IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT --- WEBSITE MAINTENANCE ON TUESDAY, MARCH 29 2011

This was posted on page 13, 6th post from the top

..."Again, please report all technical problems by either sending a pm to the Admin account, or by sending a regular email to [email protected]"

This backs what I was trying to say, let the mods know by private message or by email PLEASE.

TreeeFrog

lfw045 04-05-2011 03:57 PM

Hey TreeFrog......Ignore the grumps...LOL! The administrators of this board will get the bugs worked out in due time. If people can't understand this then if they allow themselves to get frustrated enough to piss of the new people that are running this board, by constantly complaining, to the point of them shutting down the board well then......that would indeed be a shame now wouldn't it.

Chill out peeps, relax, do some quilting, have a cup of coffee or tea and let the admins relax and get their job done. After all, this board is priviledge, it is free for us, don't be so demanding.

bigsister63 04-05-2011 03:58 PM

Amen!!!!

Deborah12687 04-05-2011 04:03 PM

It's better that they do the maintance on it in stead of have it go down. I haven't said much about it as the maintance is needed and updates to keep the board up and running.

Rob 04-05-2011 04:09 PM

I personally feel in some instances...on both sides of the topic...the subject could have been handled/worded differently than what I see.

I have to agree with you GaiGai. The ongoing problems with this site really are unacceptable. I know people behind the scenes work hard. I love it here. I love my kids too. BUT. . . if they're misbehaving and don't toe the line within a reasonable amount of time, they're going to get grief from me.

The point is, some of us aren't complaining because we don't like it here or don't appreciate the good folks who run this site, it's that the problems we've all encountered since the site went down for maintenace a couple weeks ago has gone on for an unacceptable amount of time and therefore they are going to hear about it from many of us.

I totally agree with this and other comments like it-in the business world. Last I checked, it wasn't costing any of us anything to be on it.

I think that this site makes money from paid advertising, not by charging quilters to enjoy an on-line 'community'. Perhaps the advertisers are distressed by the difficulties their potential buyers are having. Perhaps they have availed themselves of the info@ email address or other private methods to communicate their displeasure such as withdrawing advertising. That is not our issue as users of the site.

I have noticed no differences on this website since the turnover except for occasional poor-to-none-at-all responses to reading and posting and searching. If something has improved, I would like to know what it is because I haven't noticed it.

Totally agree. I frequently skipp those topics and move on to the quilt related messages. I don't want to waste my board time reading BS.

In defense of those doing the complaining...many of them are just trying to determine if the problem is with their computer or internet access or are others having the same problem. I believe, however, that the people running this board are doing the best they can and since it is free that we need to have patience and a little tolerence.

justlooking 04-06-2011 02:53 AM

It takes a while to work the bugs out of any website. Let's be patience.

WOW Let's all hold hands, join in a circle and sing kumbya.....We all love it here. As lots have stated daily, most of us spend wayyyyyy tooo much time here, so obviously we love it, lol We're like "addicts" we go into a fit and become people we aren't when we can't get our "Board Fix" I always thought we could complain, but I was under the impression the complaints would pertain to our own "lack of quilting issues" not about issues with the Board or with each other. We have to agree to fight with all that's in us to make sure that NOTHING happens to end this board. I'll be brutally honest and say that you people on this board are my only quilting friends and without you, I seriously think I'd be in a bad way. So please let's not get upset with each other. I hope this doesn't sound stupid and you understand what I'm saying (((((Wendy)))))
