I was going to ask for feedback on purchasing the EQ 7, but, I searched it, and everyone seems to love it. I am about to order it, once I convince myself I am worth it, so, I would definitely appreciate new feedback from anyone that is using EQ 7. A while back, I asked fellow board members to do me a mock up of a dresden plate on point, and they did a beautiful job. DH says go for it...it will just enhance your creativity, but, $190.00 plus taxes and shipping...ouch. So, please any feedback at this point would be greatly appreciated. I really only need alittle coaxing...LOL!

zipit 10-10-2011 11:46 AM

I bought it, I installed it and I've not done a single thing with it. It is pitiful.

Sunflower Girl 10-10-2011 11:47 AM

Quilt in a Day has on the deal of the day for $132.97, plus free shipping, that's where I bought mine.

ManiacQuilter2 10-10-2011 11:49 AM

I am sure you will be delighted. I have own Electric Quilt since back in '95 when I met with Penny at the Houston Quilt Market. I have owned EQ3,4 and 5 and I have been delighted with them all. It makes any alternation with block sizes so easy. No more drafting with a pencil or using the calculator. Everything will be there. It just will take a little practice as with any computer software. GOOD LUCK and HAVE FUN !!!

quiltsRfun 10-10-2011 11:54 AM

You're worth it! Go for it!

this is a great deal. i have EQ5 and wouldn't be without it.

Jamiestitcher62 10-10-2011 11:58 AM

Check ebay too, they have good prices on Electric Quilt products.

oksewglad 10-10-2011 12:00 PM

I've had mine for over a year and love it. It takes time to get used to--like every new piece of software. The tutorials are great; it's learning by doing. Each time I use it I pick up something new. If you are used to going to graph paper you will enjoy this. And I do use the calculator once in a while. Go for it!

QuiltingKrazy 10-10-2011 12:07 PM

I have it and love it! Just wish I used more! it does take time to get used as with any new program. I think you will be happy with the investment

scowlkat 10-10-2011 01:24 PM

Wow, I would definitely check into a better price! I love my EQ7.

jgriinke 10-10-2011 02:43 PM

Go for it! You will love it.
Once you get it, be sure and register it. That will get you into their data base and when the next upgrade is out there, you can get that for a real savings.
Enjoy!

I have EQ6 and have messed around with it off and on. Made a great pattern for a Lone Star quilt that I made a sold. It's fun, but it takes practice and you have to learn a lot.

Xtgirl 10-10-2011 04:32 PM

I bought from someone on this board that wasn't using it at a great price. You may want to post an ad....

clsurz 10-10-2011 05:49 PM

I was fortunate and able to buy it for $138 a few months ago but if I had to pay full retail it would still be well worth it.

If you like creating for yourself it is worth it.

I just designed a block on it last week which I will use soon.

You can use traditional blocks, modify, draw, and much more.

GO FOR IT!

I love it! Love it, love it!!!! Did I say I Love it? :D Watch for sales though, don't pay the $190 retail price. Just be warned that quilting will take a back seat for a while. Once you do some of the lessons, you'll be playing and designing instead of sewing. LOL It really is sooooo much fun!

BellaBoo 10-11-2011 03:31 AM

I've had EQ since it was on DOS. When I first started quilting I saw an ad for it in the back of a quilt magazine. I ordered right then and if I remember it was about the cost of what it is now! I've gotten the upgrades ever since. I keep wondering how EQ could get any better but each upgrade adds more and gets easier to use. There is a learning curve but the more you use it the better it gets.

helou 10-11-2011 03:45 AM

I bought it a few months ago and started to learn to use it.
I takes a lot of practice. It's a good thing that I do not mind learning new computer skills as with any new computer program I find that we have to take the time it takes to get used to them.
I like it and I succeeded in drawing patterns that I wanted to try. I scanned all of my fabrics (I don't have a huge stash) Then you can use the colors and fabrics that you own and it gives you a better idea of what you might want to make.

Like you, I really hesitated before I bought it. At the end I decided it would be my Chrismas or birthday or whatever gift from me to me with all my love (any excuse is good)
I am not a prolific quilter but why not!)

helou 10-11-2011 03:46 AM

Sorry! double post (again)

I agree, you can definitely get it cheaper than $190. I've had mine for 6 months before even touching it. But I used it this past weekend and I think I'll love it too!

pflum1 10-11-2011 04:47 AM

It has a learning curve. But, it's a great product once you figure it out.

Shrink42020 10-11-2011 05:02 AM

Whooodeeewhooo! Thanks all, I just ordered from Quilt in a Day for DH to give as B'day gift!!. This board is the greatest. They had 3 left if anyone is interested you need to hurry!

sandpat 10-11-2011 05:28 AM

DO IT! I've owned 5, 6 & 7 and will upgrade again when necessary! Its a great program, but you will have to actually USE it to get your money's worth. Now....what cha' waiting for????

eeraemore 10-11-2011 05:30 AM

I bought it...and while I like it, and while I consider myself mostly computer-savvy, it takes some practice to get used to using all the features.

brightstar_202 10-11-2011 05:55 AM

I bought it downloaded it and I have done nothing with it either. I did just start taking lessons and have had it since it came out. If you are ready to use it and complete the videos and the lessons and then start you are ready to start with EQ7. If money is hard to come by then I would wait, maybe someone will give you one? Who knows there has been stranger things happen here............The buy is up to you, If I had it all to do over I would have bought it sooner and took the lessons so I could use it in the quilting I have done but now that I have made almost all of the quilts that I am going to do for a while it was a waste. So it is tolally up to you sis, you have to figure this one out......I started with the wizard and had just as much fun wit it.

Lucy90 10-11-2011 06:12 AM

I have EQ7 and love it. Once I got the hang of it I LOVE IT!

NannyPat 10-11-2011 06:18 AM

I love my EQ7! One of the best features is that you can scan your fabric into it and actually SEE what the finished quilt will look like! Get it...take some lessons on its features, then USE it! I don't use it nearly enough, but when I do, it is simply awesome!

Joanne9of12 10-11-2011 06:26 AM

Buy it and be sure to use it. It may take some playing around to learn it, but it's well worth the money. I use my EQ all the time for resize blocks, figuring yardage, playing with layout designs, border otions, etc. YOU ARE WORTH IT!!

ladydi64 10-11-2011 07:04 AM

Go for it I love mine. I just finished a course at the quit university on how to make a quilt sampler using EQ7. The teacher was terrific and explained a lot of things that made it easier to use. Yes, there is such a place on line call the Quilt University at www.quiltuniversity.com.

joyce888 10-11-2011 07:10 AM

I too bought and installed it BUT haven't done a thing since! This will probably be a New Year's resolution.

Sierra 10-11-2011 07:14 AM

I bought one for "art" quilts. I thought it would be an answer for me because always have to buy too much fabric because I don't know how much it will take for each area. And I wanted to be able to manipulate my designs with my own fabrics to see how they look before cutting. I asked here on the quilt board about using it that way and was told "yes" it can be used for non-blocks.

I have a MAC so my grandson put a pc side to my MAC. I called up the help people (they were really nice) and they walked me through different steps. I printed out a binder full of instructions, thinking if I could do each step by step w/o having to refer elsewhere that would help. I was told to practice using a regular drawing program to help me understand how to use EQ7. I took classes ($50 for 3, but I started at the second one and only got two) they told me I could come back for the first one when it runs again. I asked after the first one I went to if they were going to discuss non-block quilting and the instructor said "yes, next class". But never a word was mentioned... everyone else loved fiddling with blocks.

Bottom line, I'm too electronically challenged to use it. I didn't quilt for a couple of months trying to learn EQ7. Outside of my machine it is the biggest purchase I've ever made, and its useless for me.

I don't think most of the world out there is as dumb as me, but if you may be, try someone else's first before you put out a lot of money.

Where did you take your classes?

clsurz 10-11-2011 09:21 AM

awesome

kona 10-11-2011 09:21 AM

I bought EQ7 and have only used it one time. Would never spend that amount if I could turn back the clock.

Ann

Ginger2010 10-11-2011 09:31 AM

Same here! Bought it, never used it! Thought that it would be a neat thing to have! Got a good deal from Quilt In A Day, also, but seems like I spend too much time on the board to get much sewing and quilting done, out alone trying to learn EQ7! But, I have learned a lot from this board! Great people here! Maybe some day, I will use the lessons like everyone else! I definitely would not spend over $150 for it. I think maybe mine was around $140! Money wasted right now, but maybe not in the future! Good Luck in choosing!

I agree with NannyPat. I was really excited when I found out about this feature. I could really see what the finished quilt would look like once I was done playing around with fabric placement. All in all, I really enjoy using EQ7 and I'm surprised how much I've used it.

annap 10-11-2011 10:49 AM

How did you get it so do the inside sashing? I couldn't figure it out and thought I would have to include it in the blocks. Haven't gotten back to it to give it a try.

You are not dumb-just as everyone is not a quilter not everyone is a computer geek. Believe me I am married to one and sometimes his explanations are like a space shuttle over my head.

I can email, I can do the spreadsheet, and even write a letter-Word-but don't ask me to do anything complicated as it "ain't gonna get done!!"
