Expertise needed

I have finally finished this curved log cabin and was thinking of adding a small border in the same color as the background fabric......what say the experts?? I have looked at this so long my brain can no longer decide what would look best, thus I turn to the wise world that is QB.

ekuw 09-25-2015 02:37 PM

Yes, I think a small white border would look very good.

I agree, and what a beautiful quilt!

Tiggersmom 09-25-2015 02:46 PM

I would do a small white border or flange and then a blue border after that. Jmho

ILoveToQuilt 09-25-2015 03:01 PM

Narrow white border. Love, love, love your quilt! Log cabin is always my go-to pattern.

fruitloop 09-25-2015 03:27 PM

Border and binding in white.

sewingitalltogether 09-25-2015 03:37 PM

I'm fond of 3 borders. Maybe the dark blue 1 -2" with that yellow 3 1/2" and finished with one of the pinks/reds at 5". Love the quilt.

Cybrarian 09-25-2015 03:38 PM

Beautiful! I agree, I think a white border will give it a nice finish!

QuiltnNan 09-25-2015 04:03 PM

i would do the light border. if it needs to be bigger after that, i'd add a scrappy piano key border

Tartan 09-25-2015 04:18 PM

I agree with QuiltnNan. A light strip all around and then a piano key border with all the fabric in the quilt, great top!

Jeanne S 09-25-2015 04:24 PM

If it were mine, I would add a narrow royal blue border and binding. Beautiful quilt!!

Geri B 09-25-2015 04:53 PM

Any color...not white ....takes away from the curviness ....jmho

Mdegenhart 09-25-2015 05:56 PM

Narrow white, then either the red or blue. I'd do red.

BETTY62 09-25-2015 06:02 PM

What a beautiful quilt. I think a white border would look really nice.

zzmom 09-25-2015 06:24 PM

Small white border or the royal blue as a border would look good as well.

Cathe 09-25-2015 07:03 PM

That sounds good - the white inner border and then something outside of that. I like that idea because if it's a bed quilt, it will probably get some handling around the edges. I raised three sons and a husband, and white quilts scare me. ;)

Yours is gorgeous!

Beautiful! The prettiest curved LC I've seen. What is the pattern name and size. When I first looked at the quilt, what came to mind was a thin white border and then a wider border of royal blue with same for binding. Other ideas here sound good also.

I second that... Your quilt is already beautiful but I can just picture it with a piano key border after a white inner border and then maybe a darker blue or red binding. Your colors are fun!

DOTTYMO 09-26-2015 02:24 AM

Finish with narrow white border then binding in blue or rainbow of colours.

Tom W 09-26-2015 03:40 AM

add me to the narrow border in white with white binding camp

nunnyJo 09-26-2015 03:46 AM

white border and then your fav. color as a finish border.

LGJARN52 09-26-2015 03:54 AM

Oh please tell me you made this for ME!! It's absolutely wonderful...love the bright colors, bandana prints, and everything about it. I usually like Civil War material, but this just perks me up this morning!!

quilterpurpledog 09-26-2015 04:05 AM

Your quilt is a wonderful curved log cabin. It is just perfect in every way. I think I would add a narrow white border and then a red or blue binding. That would frame and enclose your beautiful quilt but provide that needed rest stop for the eye without being a distraction from the beautiful pieced work. I'm sure you know that the viewer's question is to wonder how you got the curved effect. We want to see the end product.

elly66 09-26-2015 04:28 AM

A small border in white would look fine. If it was mine I wouldn't add any border. Beautiful as it is. Love your colors.

Reba'squilts 09-26-2015 04:37 AM

I am no help....like all the ideas, if it was mine would just audition the fabrics and choose the method I liked the best. Just wanted to say, I love your quilt!!!

MaryKatherine 09-26-2015 04:37 AM

White, then bind in a bright colour, or a mixture.( sew the scraps together ).

youngduncan 09-26-2015 04:39 AM

When I looked at your quilt, I immediately imagined it with a narrow white "eye-stopper" followed by a piano-key border using all the colors in the quilt. This is definitely a masterpiece!!

tessagin 09-26-2015 04:44 AM

My thoughts also.

Looks like the verdict is in for small white border so I'll say a 2 1/2" white border so as to not take away from the gorgeous top by the time you add your backing to it....

carolynjo 09-26-2015 05:16 AM

You could also use a narrow white border and then finish with a narrow blue border. Beautiful quilt, by the way.

Yip -- that's what I'd do...:) It's GORGEOUS!

twinkie 09-26-2015 05:28 AM

I would definitely do a small light solid border and then you could do any type of border after that. I think you need the solid to set the center log cabin off and make it pop.

Snooze2978 09-26-2015 06:35 AM

I've been adding sort of a racing stripe on my borders. On yours as a suggestion only a 2-3" border in the background fabric, then a 1.5" stripe in a color you want to stand ut and then finish off with a larger background border. Been doing this for my last couple quilts and really like the look. Plus for those quilts that just need a little more size added to them, this works..........at least for me it did.

Love the colors in your quilt, so bright and cheerful. Put on the sunglasses...:-)

TheCloser 09-26-2015 07:59 AM

Wow, great quilt. I vote for white border. Pin some white fabric down at least one side, should give you your answer on how to proceed.

klswift 09-26-2015 08:20 AM

I like the idea of a small white border to stop the eye. I would add another border to tie in the backing. This would depend on who you are giving it to and what they prefer. (I think a blue backing and blue border to match the medium dark blue in the logs would be smashing!)

ManiacQuilter2 09-26-2015 09:47 AM

I also agree. I would sew a narrow border of the white fabric you used and then try a piano keyboard. If that doesn't look good, then try one of the darker blues. I don't want anyone to take offense but the binding is the part of the quilt that gets the most abuse so I would never use white binding. It will constantly look dirty all the time.

tallchick 09-26-2015 11:01 AM

Thank you everyone for your help and your kind words!! I need to re arrange some blocks for better balance, get everything sewn and then I will add the border(s) and post a pic one I get it quilted. Thank you again!!

Bree123 09-26-2015 11:02 AM

Add another vote to the White Inner Border followed by that beautiful bright blue (could be border or binding -- or flange). Really striking! I just love this quilt!

wildyard 09-26-2015 12:46 PM

I also think the white border would be a great idea, and would then add one from one of your lovely bright colors, or use that as the binding, if not both.

junegerbracht 09-26-2015 03:05 PM

I would do a white border. Love your quilt - colors are so cheery! Makes me happy to look at it.
