Fabric back side

Do any of you ever put the wrong side up when piecing scrappies? I do, and like the results. This is random and not too many are close to the others.

Yes, since making many watercolors quilts, I do use the back of the fabric. I also wanted a variety in the shade of a tonal on an orange peel quilt in progress and I reversed some of the fabrics.

The saying is, you paid for both sides, so you can use them both.

I did that a lot in my Asian Log Cabin quilt that I just posted in pictures yesterday. On the light values, the right side was too dark but the wrong side was perfect!

Yes, I'm using the back side of fabric for the background in a quilt -- the front side is too bright, the backside is nicely muted. When I have done this in other quilts I've been asked where I bought the fabric! I often shop for fabric by looking at the backside.

I pay for both sides of my fabric and use both sides as needed to achieve my final project.

With scrappiest sometimes I do it on purpose, some times by accident. Either way, I never fret about it.
