Does anyone on the board know where to get really good deals on quilting fabric by the bolt (sort of wholesale price, but not for a business)?
|
I'm interested, too.

I think you get 40% off when you buy a whole bolt at Fabric Depot in Portland - probably also applies to online sales.

Does Marshall's Dry Goods sell by the bolt?
|
|
Not a huge selection but a great price:

Thanks. I just called them and they do offer for bolt price like you said 40% but on the regular price only and the shipping they charge the actual cost so they have to process it first and quote you for the shipping.

i buy bolts from Thousands of Bolts. i just received 2 bolts of baby flannel fabric for $2.35 a yard
|
If you use a 50% off coupon at JOANN'S on a bolt it makes it affordable. I purchase muslin, white and natural, thermolam or warm and natural etc.
|
How many yards are on a bolt?
|
It seems to vary. Alot of calicos at JoAnns are 8 yds. Flannel is more.
|
Most quilting cottons come on 15-yard bolts (give or take a couple of yards).

Ladyfingers is having a bolt sale, 15 yard bolts for $40.00
|
I buy all of my bolts here
http://fabric4less.com/ Great prices, they are right there in LA, so shipping would be very little to you! They will quote shipping for you on the phone before you place an online order. The shipping estimator on their site doesn't ever seem to work for me. The ship very quickly and just for an idea of what it runs, to ship to MT; one bolt is $10, two bolts are $14 and three are $16.....great place! |
I like this website. Thanks. I am going to call them and see if they have a shop so i can pet the fabric...lol

When you buy fabric for backings, whether it's the wide one, or bolts, how do you decide what to buy if it's for quilts not yet made? Do you stay with neutral?
|
I will be looking for this one.

OMG I'm in trouble now!!

For me, neutrals aren't in it. ;) At all. So if I found some fabulous lime green or purple fabric, preferably on sale, I'd pick up 6-7 yards for a backing. And I like pieced backings, so if it's not enough, I can always build it up, either with leftover fabrics from the actual quilt top- you know, when it finally gets made in 2015  - or with other fabric in my stash. If someone is into all those Moda/Amy Butler/Art Gallery collections, for instance, a backing from one can easily work on a quilt top done with fabrics from a different collection. Or maybe Thimbleberries are your thing. Same concept. I'm in the brights, saturated color camp. So I know I won't need the Thimbleberry fabric. Ever. ;) |

I bought a bolt of muslin from Marshall dry goods and I don't have a tax id #

Try quiltingwarehouse.com
|
Do a search online for wholesale fabric and it will bring up a list you can start checking out.
There are a few good ones online but don't have that with me right now. |

Yes, they do. I do however suggest it is best to check out the fabric in person from them because I know for a fact if you don't you can get some really cheap fabric that is not worth buying. Plus the shipping is high.
|
Glad you ask that question!!!

I found a place on Ebay that sells warm and natural and also Insolbright at a good price for a bolt of it. I don't buy my fabrics by the bolts as I like to buy 2 to 4 yards of colors at a time so I get lots of prints and colores. I go to FC Harris for most of my quilt fabric, thread by the cone, and other notions.

I worked out a deal with my LQS to include bolts for me on her orders. I pay a small fee above whesake with half the money down and rest when I pick up the bolts. Usually these are neutrals for backgrounds or 108 backings.
|
I had to sign up like three times before i started getting them. First time they are really slow then you start getting them regularly. I also signed my son and daughter for their crafts (my daughter beads, and my son nibles at everything) so i end up using all theirs

Lot of good information. Thanks for the heads up
|
At JoAnns, you have to sign up, then when you go, even if you don't buy anything, have them scan your "flyer" that you get in the mail to keep on their mailing list. About every 3 weeks, I get a 40% off coupon from them....and occasionally get a 50% one.
I think I need to unsubscribe from this site.....I do not need to know about inexpensive fabric. ha ha. |
I work far enough ahead I know what size I will need. I often
buy off of the 44" w bolt to blend or go along with my top. If I'm not for sure I buy 9 yards. |
I would just type into Google exactly what you are looking for
