I just got my AccuQuilt Go for scrap quilt pieces. I just have the
2", 3 1/2" and 5" square dies and the 2 1/2 strip die. Dies are expensive, but these I use alot for scrap quilts. I store the pieces in a 10 drawer rolling cart from JoAnns (on sale). The drawers aren't very deep, but I can sort by more colors and types of fabric. |
I store my fabric in dresser drawers & my scrap in rubbermaid plastic containers stacked on the short long dresser. I have a very small room and share it with the computer. I have a cuting board that fits on top of my ironing board that my son in law made for me for my birthday several years ago & my sewing machine is on a desk. There is barely enough room to walk in there but it works.

So pretty and bright--so nice!!!!
And as I am picking myself up off the floor after watching the hilarious video----it is priceless!!!!! |
I envy all of you organized quilters. Due to lack of space I have stuff in every room. Lots of large plastic tubs stacked up in a corner, as many that will fit under my longarm frame, shelves, nooks and crannies. After seeing all these great pictures I sit here marveling your space and organizational skills:-) :-) ROFL youtube!

Many of the pictures on this thread show the fabric folded into small bundles. To those of you who do this, do you have problems with fold lines that won't iron out? I'm thinking particularly of yardage - not fat quarters. I have 3 open shelving units side by side, each with 4 shelves 32" wide and 13" deep. At present, I fold the fabric around a spare cardboard 'inner', keeping the width the same as in the shop so that there is minimal folding, slide out the board and stack 2 deep on the shelf. The problem is, I can never remember what is in the back stack! I'm loath to cut off samples to keep at the front, to remind me. I'm wondering if I would be better off refolding everything so that each fabric goes from front to back - but I get a bit obsessive about creasing! |
I'm with you on the creasing of the fabric as a problem, mostly I keep my fabric folded as you describe. For the smaller fat 1/4's, they get scrunched more, and BEST PRESS helps alot.

I have shown mine before, but many of you may not have seen this. I have a long wall of 3 floor to ceiling closets. Only the one is quilting fabric, one is flannels, and one is fleece. Then I have file drawers under my 60x80 ironing table. There are 10 file drawers with fat quarter and scrap storage. I like all my fabric away from light and dust. Plus when the doors and drawers are closed the room looks neat.

The video was awesome. I've heard her song from the CD before, but the video is hilarious!! (And gave me some new ideas...)

I use the wire baskets, too. I can see what I have, and it still protects the fabric from the dangers of the cats trying to build beds in it! For the most part, the fabric is sorted by color, w/ drawers for batiks, 30's, and plaids. When I need to cut, I can pull out the whole drawer and bring it to the cutting table.

Wow - impressive collection people. It's like going window shopping online. Love all the ideas. I mainly have fat quarters due to the price of fabrics here in New Zealand and that I like scrap quilts so tend to use larger varieties of one colour rather than a large quantity of one fabric. I store in baskets on a shelf. I used to keep my fabrics in suitcases under my bed until my DH built me a shelf. Can't wait for the quilt room - daughter moves out next year so I am dreaming about it now.
|
OMG I am having fabric withdrawals looking at all that fabric. Ok now I have to have a big stash again....NOT. Love the bins and ideas. I think Luvtoquilts likes 30's. LOL. Thanks for sharing everyone.

WHAT A STASH! Husband thought I had too much. I don't come close. I do sort mine by color in clear totes. I have one for pinks, blue, green, red, yellow, plaids and misc. I use clear shoe boxes for left over strips and blocks--these are by width--2" 2 1/2" and so on up to 6"

I luv the shoe cubbie idea for smaller pieces. Thanks Craftybear for starting this thread, I am only on page one but will be bookmarking. |

sorry for the triple post  I was able to go back and delete the pics |
After seeing all these pictures I don't have a stash--maybe just scraps. Only buy fat quarters for future use. Larger amounts are purchased as needed. In the beginning I purchased material that I liked but I never found any pattern to use it in. Store quarters in 3 drawer cart plus plastic grocery bags. Have not made any quilt larger than a twin quilt--usually lap robes, table runners, wall hanging.I am always amazed to see how few scraps are needed to make a scrap quilt.

I store mine in shelves from IKEA on comic book boards. WIPs are in clear boxes on shelves in closet.

I've shown my stash storage before, but here it is again. It is behind a sliding mirrored closet door. Specific projects and cut scrap pieces ( 2", 3", 2 1/2 x 4 1/2 and 5") are behind another door stored in plastic bins with covers. I just close the doors to keep out light and dust. My rulers are on a peg board attached to back of bedroom door.
Loved looking at everyone's stash's and storage pic's. |

In case anyone was wondering what the "butter tarts" are from the you tube song - they are made with Sultana Raisins, brown sugar, butter, eggs and maybe some vanilla and they are baked in a tart shell. Her hubby is eating a Pop Tart but she sings about butter tarts. The singer must be a Canadian as she is singing about these tasty treats and also the bit about saving fabric for a friend in Calgary.
I store my yardage in a china cabinet and fat quarters in sterilite boxes. Misc. stuff in Ikea shelves. Misc projects in 3 drawer plastic - heck I put it where I can in my sewing room and store quilts in a wooded wardrobe and just got a quilt rack at the thrift store :) |
I use shoe cubbies from Lowe's too

I am very fortunate that there is a wall in, I guess it would be called a hallway, but it's really more open, and Home Depot sells oak unfinished kitchen wall cabinetst. We arranged 3 high x 3 wide, but they're not quite finished yet (I was trying out the white wash paint as you can see) I keep my quilting fabric there
|
I am working on mine.

I can't show mine right now. I'm in the process of moving and everything in in boxes. Can't wait to get settled and start setting up my sewing room in a new location.
