I like Alene's "OK to Wash It" for permanent.

I use mostly glue sticks.

Depends on what you want to use it for. If I'm appliqueing and want the glue to be a temporary bond, I use Elmer's washable. I'd use something that is labeled as a "permanent fabric bond" if I ever wanted it to be permanent.

Joan's and Hancock's and Walmsrt all have selections of glue suitable for fabric in both temporary (washable) and permanent types. They come in liquid or spray types. Most of the glue sticks are washable. You find them in the sewing notions area, the quilting notions area and in the crafts notions area. The stores don't put them altogether in any one place. Hobby Lobby doesn't carry as much selection. I find that I need a liquid permanent glue and a temporary spray glue the most. I also use a lot of the adhesive seam tapes.

You looking for liquid or glue stick? I use a stick, I don't have to let it dry - just wipe, place fabric, sew!

I've used a few different sticks, have not had a problem with any. Just make sure it say's "acid free". I've even used the ones that say "permanent" without a problem as I don't think the permanence applies to soap and water.

that said .. I have tested ALL of my sticks prior to use on scraps. I apply the stick heavily on both sides, let it dry, I'll even try a second test and iron it - then I wash them to make sure the glue washes out. So far ... not a single "permanent" glue stick stood up to soap and water (most of the time only water was needed).

Agreed ... Uhu is one of the sticks I've tried. As well as Office Max' own brand (which is probably one of the others!)

It is still around, however you do not want to use it in a quilt. It will not wash out, it is there to stay. I use it for crafts.

I like Liquid Stitch. Its really good for those of us who wear underwire bras. When the wire starting poking out, just push it back in and seal the opening with liquid stitch. Works great.

Yes, I use this because it is what Sharon Shamber's (the award winning quilter) uses. I figured if she uses it on her quilts I can certainly use it on mine...he, he, he...
