Barbara has quilting days at various locations and I go to a few and have met some wonderful quilters. She is very organized now as a place to keep everything. |

See, I'm doing a bit of investigation to prove a theory I have. I think there's a piece of fabric, maybe more than one, that is extremely lonely, and is sending signals out to other fabric out in the stores, to come and join it. By seeing her fabric, I may be able to figure out who the culprit is.. That's my stroy and I'm sticking to it |
Check the network website and see if the show is available for viewing online.

Hoarding is a sickness, where things replace relationships. Years ago a neighbor of ours who was a hoarder finally shot himself in a parking lot. He couldn't connect with people, felt that things made himself secure, then finally just gave up. It is very sad.
Quilting is a wonderful hobby, and a great way of expressing our creativity. And while we appreciate the beauty of the fabrics, they are no substitute for the beauty of spending time with family and friends. We come into this world with nothing, and go out the same. What will last is those loving things we do for and with others. I really enjoy quilting, but have to keep reminding myself that showing love to people comes first. |

I think true hoarding is a sickness...I think there are different levels of hoarding though. My sister (so did mom) hoard...only because their mental capicity and havng been poor make them that way. My sister has not only her things, but all four of her children's boxes & stuff stored in her home....neat and in boxes/bins...not garbage.
I have a ton of fabrics, magazines, old dishes, knick knacks, etc...why? because we owned a 2nd hand store. I purge every year (area wide garage sale), but we end up with more. Fabrics I buy on sale...I'm 75 miles round trip from nearest fabric store now...I am slowing using all I have. I don't save anything smaller than a fat quarter...but as my fabric stash grows...which was stored on shelves in this one room...but cold weather (this room is not heated) grew colder...I ended up indoors...took up two bedrooms...now about half way back to being in this one room. I think hoarding is not really what Barb was doing...she was, like a lot of us, disorganized. Getting organized costs money...and that's money we can use to pay for batting, backings and postage on our quilts of valor. We would rather use the money for soldiers & charity, than use it for plastic bins. I'm slowing buying bins to put my fabrics in...bins that fit the 8 large shelving units I have it in now. |

That's my story and I'm sticking to it In between rain I have been lugging plastic bins of fabric out to my deck to try and organize my sewing room (which has no room for a table or any of my 4 sewing machines). On top of holding my fabric, ribbon, books, etc. It also holds 5'7" tall drawers that hold supplies for my ribbon roses and venise lace business. Those tall drawers multiplied and some are across one wall in my bedroom. At least everything is protected from my four legged children (one of which (Sarah) steals ribbon roses any time they are left in plain view for more than 5 seconds). She has an obsession for satin and roses. Smart kittie! |

LOL

Okay that made me feel less guilty knowing my endless stash is at least limited to my sewing room. :)
|
emmah..you are a quilter who gets it like we all do...said beautifully...thank you!!
Tough to explain but felt by the heart as to how we make this world a better place with our quilts. Sew on ladies and make no excuses! |
Can you say "Road Trip" :!: :!: :!:
|
How about sewing machine hoarders.

ROFL~~ OK, I gotta get organized! |
Every time I watch a hoarder show, I have to go clean and get rid of stuff. I watched a hoarder show last night and had to go down the basement and get rid of some more seasonal stuff. LOL My house is very clean and sparse of any clutter so I have to get rid of good stuff. I got rid of most of my stash and now all I have left fits into 16 tubs. I think I need to get rid of some more of it. I would like my stash to all fit in the closet. I have 4 tubs that are in the sewing room under the table.

One of my friends saw my fabric room for the first time last week. She called me a "hoarder"! She doesn't sew so she doesn't understand how fast that fabric goes.
|
I saw a lady on Peter Walsh show..and that was the last one I saw of his show. He used to be on Clean Sweep Show before his own.
Yes they made her give her fabric away, quilt kits etc and sell some of it...It was on OWN channel, Oprah's channel. I love watching Clean Sweep and House Hunters whenever I can. Thank God, MY little 10x10 rm. isn't that bad! Cindy |

Ok, got some updates.
I went to Google and put in her name. Barbara Winkler. I clicked on a link and found out that the show air's on Monday's at 8 EST on OWN - Oprah Winfrey Network. It is not on TLC. I went to youtube and put in her name and you should be able to see enough of the show to get a good idea of what it was about. They have several clips on there. It sure made me feel good about the ONE room that I have to sort through. I am envious of her 'garage' though. What an awesome setup. |
I just made backing and binding for 6 quilts for charity...and I used a boat load of fabric to finish...do I have too much fabric...oh yeah but at least I can shop here when I need something at midnight.
This is my story and I am sticking to it! |
So very well said. Of all things we leave our loved ones, the ones they remember are the times we took to make them feel special.
|
I'm horrified! The very idea, parting with fabric! If it was cats or spoiled food or a rotten husband, well yea.
|
that will scare all of us.
|
GREAT! they found my sister! if she talks i'm DOOMED!!!
|
I'm going to check it out on you tube, my t.v. has been broken for two months.

Her son had to relocate to a sm. space in the basement & husb. has a sm. area for himself. |
I know a lady ,that does NOT Quilt , but she buys fabric and makes bundles and sells it on line. SHE JUST LOVES FABRIC.
|
Here are the two segments on YouTube
http://youtu.be/4mAUIaR26bc and http://youtu.be/Ory180f1gx4 Looks like they didn't force her to throw away her fabric after all! She sorted through everything and got it into bins. There was a nice big pile to donate to other chapters of Quilts of Valor and then ... they built a wonderful storage area in her garage. The big surprise was members of the Army showing up to help her put it all away. It was so touching! |

These made me cry. How out of control she had to have felt and what a wonderful solution! How many of us get overwhelmed with our "stuff" and have not place to go with it. I have been on a pitching missions this week. Paperwork, misc junk, old PC and monitors that have been long replaced with notebook computers, etc. It gets to be too much. While I refuse to have a large stash myself, I felt bad for this gal and her family. Everyone looked so happy toward the end of the video.
