I don't enjoy my stash being in their storebags still. I am in the process cleaning up thecluttwer of my other crafts to make room for myy stash in a organize manner. L O L

My stash is not as large as most of you, but, I recently finished a large log cabin quilt for a shower gift for my DGD and used my stash for all of it except the backing and binding. I wouldn't have needed to buy fabric for that except I wanted no seams in the backing (extra wide fabric) and the binding color didn't match good enough. My DH says I have about a million dollars worth of fabric--slight exaggeration. A few years ago I gave away bags of fabric to some very grateful ladies. Then I started collecting again, just in a different direction. My daughters know what I want done with my fabric and that they BETTER do it or I will haunt them. lol

As far as donating, I live in the Rochester, NY area and Fairport, NY has a very special shop. It's call Crafts Bits & Pieces. It was started by volunteers who were funding a transportation system for the elderly in their town. People bring in all sorts of leftover crafting materials: fabric, yarn, knitting needles, sewing machines, stamping, patterns, books......whatever you have in your sewing craft room that you will never pick up again. Volunteers sort and price the products from a storefront and these are sold out of another storefront in the same plaza. Donations come in from people like me who are downsizing or whole quilting stashes when people pass away. If I'm looking to start a new craft I go there first, if I'm looking for say solid fabric for a scrappy quilt, I go there first. They have the bits and pieces that all crafters love at bargain prices ($1 - $2/yard for fabric, knitting needles $.50) and what a wonderful way to make sure people recycle their craft pieces and they don't go to a landfill. Sometimes they are overwhelmed with donations....that's where the need for a separate donation space came from). Wonderful idea.

We had an interesting speaker at Guild last night that said, "Each big quilt has a baby quilt." An it was so true, there is always yardage left over. From now on, I'm getting rid of extra fabric on the free table or using it on the back. That's how stashes get too big.

I have stipulated that my quilt club and quilt guild friends are to be allowed to go through my sewing/studio and take whatever they can use. If there is anything left, it is to be donated to Project Linus. My stash is nowhere near 15,000 bolts, but I do have quite a bit of fabric. Having said that, I hope none of my quilting buddies see this . . . I don't want to meet an early demise. lol

I said the same thing, but a friend was disappointed that they would have to wait til after the funeral-LOL
