I just got a gift card for an on-line fabric store. I will use it to buy the fabrics that my DD wants for her quilt since I don't have a stash of her favorite color. The gift card came from her - so I'm not really spending it to add more to my stash, it's to make a quilt that my daughter really wants.

I've been doing this for the last year. I have emptied one shelf. (I have 2 sets of shelves 72"x30"x18".) If I finish some of my Works in Progress I'll have 2 more empty shelves. Then I can empty some of the boxes stored in the closet.
It becomes an interesting challenge to use what I have and avoid buying more. I have spent less than $100 this last year on fabric.
I needed to get tough with myself because I was running out of storage space.

I **need** some fabric to finish a top. Found what I need on sale, if I buy it does that mean I fell off the wagon??????? I've been afraid to order bc I don't want the Quilt Police to come after me.

No Quilt Police. The parameters include fabric needed to finish a quilt in progress. Sounds to me like your situation fits.

So funny I see this today. Last night I was organizing to unearth the machine to sew on binding and said to myself out loud "Melissa you don't need to buy a damn thing" this is as I was putting a new kit on the shelf. And I know when I pop in to the quilt shop tomorrow to say hi she will have something else for me that I said I wanted months ago :)

I used to say I would do anything to support my clothes habit and need to change that to my quilting fabric habit :)

I'd rather be in a fabric store than a clothing store. Occasionally my two girls kidnap me to go shopping with them for clothes. There comment is "Mom you need some new cloths". Well, I did replace my holey jeans. That should be enough don't you think.
The fabric moratorium was hard.

I have been thinking very seriously about all my stash. My problem is that I don't make time to sew my beautiful fabrics.

I have supplied Project Linus and Hospice sewers with a lot of fabrics this year so they should be set for a good while.
I am definitely going to curtail my purchasing for at least 3 months and try really hard to make some sewing time each day. That should help a lot with my stash, but could probably do this for a year without making a dent. Have fallen in love with scrappy quilts, so can really support those from my stash. Now, all I have to purchase will be batting! I CAN do this!!!

I ordered the fabric to finish two of my quilts. I always over buy. This morning the online store called me to tell me they didn't have enough of one of the fabrics. It was still enough for one quilt. Soooooo that kinda makes me even since I didn't get as much. I keep looking over my shoulder for the Quilting Police. :lol:

Buy no fabrics..........I'm getting shakey just thinking about the idea! My family will think I've lost my mind!
