We are two months into our fabric moratorium and it would be great to hear from everyone to find out how you are getting on.

Last months progress was fantastic - everyone is doing so well. I’m really proud of you all. There were a few small slips - but nothing major :)

What have you been working on? What have you (or have not) purchased? If you have used a variant of the original rules, please share with us your guidelines and your progress.

The original thread can be found here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-79756-1.htm
January’s updates can be found here: http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-86351-1.htm

The original rules/guidelines are:
* no fabric purchases to start a new quilt top (till 1 November 2011)

“Allowed” purchases include any item required to finish an existing project (either WIP or UFO), including but not limited to:
* batting
* backing or binding fabric
* fabric (if nothing in your stash will work)
* thread or notions
* fabric purchased on a plan prior to 1 December 2010 (e.g. block of the month)

Some people have chosen a variation of the rules/guidelines to suit their circumstances, e.g. a 3 month moratorium, or commitment to use 1 fabric from their stash each month.

Anyway, I look forward to hearing from you all and seeing your work.

Cheers

I did buy fabric Sunday, BUT it was to go with the quilt I am making for my DD best friend's wedding. I am using most of the fabric from my stash.
Although today I ordered 3 patterns to round out the Joined at the Hip Button Up series I'm working on.

I think I'm hopeless, UNLESS purchasing fabrics for 2 commissioned baby quilts is exempt from the moratorium :) :) one of my friends asked me t make a baby quilt for her grandson that is turning 1 in March so I purchased fabrics from "Favorite Fabrics" and Bethfranks here on the board for it so maybe I'm still within the guidelines. And DD1 asked me to make a baby quilt for her husbands nephews first baby. So I had to purchase fabric for that, I had no baby fabric in my stash.

I think you're still in since it was for a specific quilt. That's the story I would use. :lol:

I couldn't in good conscience commit to the moratorium because I knew I wouldn't be able to stick to it! However, I have been mostly using what I had. I think the only new fabric I've bought was for a purse.

I bought half a yard the other day to go with six others from my stash to make a quilt for my niece. The seventh I had in my stash was too blue. Turned out pretty cute. So I think I'm still okay.

I've purchased fabric but it's all been for projects I'm working on, mostly backing. And I've actually conpleted one quilt top and started two from my stash. So I think I'm still in, but just barely. I keep looking at the Hancock's of Paducah and Keepsake Quilting catalogs and it's very tempting.

So far so good. I've looked but the closest I've come to buying is a couple new sheets from Goodwill for backing for charity baby quilts. Now we may have a problem in a couple weeks, our club is making an outing to a LQS and she is offering 25% off everything in the store. I do have to make 2 girl quilts for twins due in the spring and my Great nephew needs a "big boy" quilt. I've decided to do a bug jar quilt for him. It has been fun stretching my color senses to make things go together from my stash.

I am holding strong after a minor slip. But I need a backing fabric... and ... and it means going into the ... store!!! Oh I need strenght. But on the up side I did complete a whole queen quilt top out of scraps! I 'm feeling pretty good about that.

So far so good for me. I have just purchased backing fabric for my charity quilts. I pieced seven single bed tops during December and have so far quilted 4 of them. I had 8 extra large plastic tubs of fabric in my store room (not counting what I have in my sewing room) and yesterday needed more room in the store room so I ended up with only 5 tubs. Wow did I use up all that fabric.

Will be turning off the computer shortly as we have Cyclone Yasi off the coast and we are within her landfall area. It is already a Category 5. DH has prepared the house and yard and I am cooking dinner for tonight as we are due to lose power and water shortly. Hope to talk to you all soon
