WOW!! I don't know how y'all can continue to make all those beautiful quilts you do. If our prices here are rising, does that mean your prices will be rising too? It would seem impossible! Is the cost of living covered by your salaries there?

:?

Like everywhere in the world at the moment everything is on the increase. The Aussie dollar is currently at 97c against the greenback and so we pay just slightly more per yard than you do. Last year however it was around 50c and so we payed double. However that still worked out cheaper than in Australia for a yard of material!
Depending on your skill set and education (as with most countries) you are payed accordingly.
I have a quandry about buying material online though as I want to support local craft shops and stores in Adelaide but I just can't pass up such great quality fabric at what is a true bargin. I do still buy patterns, thread and attend classes at my local quilting shop which will have to suffice!

visited LQS last week & my knees got weak when i saw prices. can't believe they have the nerve to ask $11.99--$13.99 on sale from $16.99. same fabrics--higher prices. this shop was always on the expensive side, but looks like it has gotten worse! online is STILL cheaper with shipping...

Kathy's in Springvale. Lovely shop but very expensive.

Bought 4 King packages of batting today at 50% off then got an additional 10% off. Trying to stock up on the batting. Have enough fabric. Opps Did I really say that out loud. I know there is not such think as enough fabric. Trying to use what I have and only buy for a specific need.

Eleanor Burns has fabric on sale for $3/yard right now - 60 pages worth! http://www.eleanorburns.com/shoponline/fabricsale.asp

Not associated, just placed a lovely order of blenders. Oh, shipping is free with orders over $100 and 1/2 price on international orders.

One of the Blogs I read "Sew Mamma Sew" has their fabric for $15 per yard today!

$15 a yard? That's a sale??

Well, one of my favorite LQS has a 30% off sale for Wednes, today and tomorrow. Made it down there and got some nice fabric.

As someone who deals with the cotton industry, I can tell you cotton prices have gone up like 124% in the last 3 months so it's not the stores fault, it's the mills charging more.

Sassy, Thanks. I just looked at Eleanor Burns site and couldn't help myself. I bought enough fabric for two quilt backings, 1 yard of baby fabric, plus batting for one quilt. All this for under $40, including shipping. That web site is a keeper.

Shoofly,

You are so very welcome! I spent a bit more than you (45 yards  ), but I'm trying to build up my blenders so I can try some of Ricky Tims' Convergence Quilts. Nice to see decent prices and knowing that they are going to continue to go up, so I'm getting as much as I can now.

Where do they think we are going to get the money?

True story! Unlike the government, we get in trouble if we print more ourselves!!!

In England we have been payig between £8 and £10 a yard for years, thats why I shop at Fabric Shack on line, even with the postage it is loads cheaper. I get a couple of lots a year with no postage when my friend visits. :-)

Looked at Moda over here a couple of months ago - it was $34.95 per metre. It stayed there.

I to in the "stash room" of my house and find it already paid for!!! Sure helps to look at what I got before I get more.
