I sat here and sorted all of these squares that were in a zipper bag out of that ladies stash. Oh my gosh there are a ton of them. I kept enough of them to use in some quilt tops for the quilts for kids. They range in size from about 3 1/2 inches to 4 1/2 inches or so...and they are ALL HAND CUT. I can still see some of the pencil lines. Amazing I wonder what she had planned for them. But here they are MINUS what I kept and it was probably about 1/2 as many as that are in the picture.

TonnieLoree 04-29-2011 04:11 AM

Pencil lines? I haven't thought about that forever! That is the way my Mom and I used to cut fabric (early 70's) before rotary cutters became available. I think I just dated myself! lol

CarrieAnne 04-29-2011 04:14 AM

WoW!

msquilter59 04-29-2011 04:31 AM

Homespun 04-30-2011 04:03 AM

Have fun!

19angel52 04-30-2011 04:05 AM

wow ... thought I had a lot, lol. Makes for some nice quilts though...simple 9 patch....or use them to make a very nice backing...some of the prettiest quilts I've seen have used scraps, leftovers and squares for the backing!

I had to chuckle regarding squares when I saw this title. I just purchased the from Sizzix and AccuCut every imagineable square size die each had to have to use in my Big Shot Pro Westminster Edition and got both packages in yesterday.

I already had the 2.5" and the 6.5" one but wanted larger size square dies like so I bought the 10", 8", 4.5, 5, 9 and some retangular ones. I also went ahead and bought the 6,8 and 10 inch cicle dies to use in projects later on.

I have no knowledge of all these block types out there and prefer to just design on the go and see what comes of it.

Just as what you have hear with all the fabrics I've purchased in the last few months I started yesterday cutting some of each size and making piles of them.

I am not however just cutting to cut but am matching up colors and fabrics for each project I'm designing. I also like to do applique so of course not all my fabric will be cut into squares, retangles, circles but also will start cutting some applique's for dies I already have and also my Cricut Expression machine using all those carts to cut appliques with.

You do have alot of squares there and just seeing what you have my mind is going wild thinking of ways to use them.

If you are into sewing besides quilting you could conceiveable use several of them for crafty type projects like tote bags, pot holders, and other such projects or even use some for applique if the size is right to cut them down to.

Head on over to the Bonnie Hunter site. Willing to bet the stack of squares that originally caught your eye, will instantly become larger She has quite a site using up scrap fabric. Check her out.

grangerist 04-30-2011 05:37 AM

pin wheels that what comes to mind.

Ditto that

CJ, I just asked a question about an easy way to figure out how much yardage I need for a 53x53 top, do you know :!:

A yard is approx. 42X36. A yard and a half would be 61x54inches. Honestly I would get 2yds. to allow for mistakes. I'm good at mistakes so I always try to over figure what would be needed for a top. LOL!!

fayzer 04-30-2011 07:38 AM

All I have to say is, you had better get sewing. You will need another lifetime to use up all that fabric. You could make some great charity quilts with your least favorites.

mary j 04-30-2011 07:43 AM

I am 64 and have been sewing since I was 12, but didn't discover quilting until a friend introduced me to the rotary cutter and "trip around the world in a day." Then I was off and running.

So did I. I still use pencil marks for small places that I need to either cut or sew straight. I also use them for making marks to line up my ruler for rotary cutting sometimes.
Most of the time though, I use my disappearing ink pen.

Margie 04-30-2011 10:17 AM

I love organization...I hate the time it takes to do it. I always think...I could be sewing instead of doing this lol. GOod for you.

quiltpd 04-30-2011 10:54 AM

Wow, lots of good looking stuff. Have fun using it.

Annz 04-30-2011 05:15 PM

looking good.

okiepastor 04-30-2011 05:19 PM

SO, when I drew all those pencil lines on hundreds of vintage scraps while recovering from surgery last fall, I was indulging in an activity that is passe?

HORRORS! I did not get that memo either!
