I love buttons too.

Oh, I thought everyone had a button tin. My Mom has one. My Grandma had one. Now I have one. I remember "playing" in my Mom's tin, knowing what all those buttons had come off of. Which dress that large black button edged with gold and a "pearl" in the center came off of---Christmas party dress for mom back in the 60's.

There were all kinds of other things in that tin too. Ticket stubs to past events. My brothers Sunday School pin with all the added ribbons--8 years straight!Funny little notions that I had no idea what they were until I started sewing.

You sure not everybody has a button tin?!

Oh, GrannySue, I saw the WLBT before I saw your location!! Great lady but horrible article...there were mispelled and grammatical errors in it. They sound like an old married Southern Couple so that part was ok.

It's just embarrasing when I see our news with all the errors. I know that computers and texting have spoiled so many of us but Walt Grayson is older (my age) and this article could have been much better. He's been a newscaster for many years. I think I'm going to email him and tell him to be sure he double checks his articles cause he'll never know when they might end up on the Quilting Board and read by people all over the world. :)

i love my buttons- and inherited my grandmother's button tin.
my youngest granddaughter (now 10) will sit on the floor and (sift) through my button tins for a really long time- i'm sure she will be the one to inherit mine. :) a couple years ago i had a secret sister who would send me button cards of antique buttons to add to my collection- she also sent really great new-novelty buttons. I do use buttons- when i need a button it gives me an excuse to (sift) through my tins- i can sit for an hour looking for that one perfect button for my project- or finding that set of 5 matching buttons...something about those buttons !

I also love buttons...when I was a small child, my grandmother had a few cigarboxes of beautiful buttons. When it was rainy out, she allowed us children to go into her 'good room'..and we would spend hours playing with buttons. :) I loved my 'mammy' & she loved me...buttons are good memories for me.

I live in the Pacific NW and there is a strong tradition with First People and ceremonial button blankets. When I was very little I was impressed with these blankets and have been a button lover ever since. Traditionally the buttons were mother of pearl. When I was married I made my wedding dress and a friend had buckets of mother of pearl buttons. I had so much fun picking out buttons for my dress.

That is stunning Anna!

I too have oodles of buttons. After much prodding, I told my grandmother that was the one thing I wanted. She opened up the box and there were big buttons from her mother's wedding dress from the 1880's as well as many, many antique ones. I have to old, precious ones strung on poster board cut to fit in a plastic page protector so they don't get scratched. I used dental floss to string through the shanks and button holes, stronger and easier than thread.

Happy Reading!
