Carrie, Google Nordic Walking poles. I made some with bamboo and foam rubber balls. In the winter I glued spikes on the end. They were great and gave my midsection a nice workout, but I had to give up one when I got a dog, then both when I added another dog. If I didn't have two dogs to walk, I'd never leave home without the the poles.

My weight is below one of those numbers with a zero on the end for the first time in 13 months. Yeah!!

Thank you Laurie. I have seen ppl using them but I couldn't figure out why on earth they had them when there wasn't snow on the ground. DUH!
I used to dye my hair blonde all the time. Infact for 10 years I was blonde and everyone thought it was natural because the personality matched it sometimes. LOL!!!

ROFL My sister is a blonde and boy does she make it work for her.

DH and I both have a set of walking poles. We got ours at Walmart for about $10 each. You can get "shoes" for them for payment walking for $7 at Pro Bass Shops. They really do increase the exercise and stabalize you. DH has very severe neuropathy (numbness in feet) so he uses them or a cane when walking.

The reason I have never gotten them before this is because I do walk with my dog.
So when my DH surprised me with them I decided that I would loop Toby's leash around my belt loop. The leash was a little to long so I took it in my hand and it worked pretty well.
Toby really didn't like it but he will get used to it.
I just got them late on Monday so yesterday was the first time I used them. Today I was way to busy to for my walk and of course I will not go tomorrow so Monday will probably be the next time I use them.
But as I said they really do make a difference.

They should really help get your heart rate up, and maybe help with toning the arms.

Been doing well. I haven't done much exercise but that's because there's 8" of snow on the ground and I don't do well driving or walking on ice. lol Today I'm going to make a turkey and some sides. It's just DH and I since our families live so far away but I think we'll have a nice dinner.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone!!
