One of my best friends found out she and her husband are expecting their first child! Yay! So I of course volunteered to make a baby quilt for them. I haven't really made any baby quilts before, just larger ones. So I was wondering what some of your favorite baby quilt patterns are. :D

I think you will find Hugs and Kisses is the overall fav here at this point. Very pretty and very easy.
|
The blocks for Hugs and Kisses are really easy to make. The entire quilt goes together quickly....just make sure you have the blocks turned the right way so seams match. Go for it...ask me how I know? lol
I mainly use Yellow Brick Road for baby quilts. Simple, Easy to make and put together. I usually tie it afterwards |
What about warm wishes.. Anything you do will be greatly appreciated.. Let us know what you pick and keep us posted with pics

I really like the one that is a nine patch and then cut up. I can't remember the name of it tho. It is really really easy and looks really cute. Hope you find one you like. Grammie2twins

Pinwheel's are nice and easy they go together so quickly I do them most of the time when my sis needs yet "another" baby quilt for a friend hehe.
Grammie that would be a disappearing 9 patch you're thinking of :) |
I'm pretty sure I'm leaning towards using flannels. Although there was this pattern a friend of mine used a few years ago where you sew three rectangles together, cut those on what ever diagonal you want, and then switch them around. Anyone know the name of that?

I had a lot of fun making this preemie baby quilt for my DH niece, she was a preemie. I made it a little bigger so she could use it at home. She was in the hospital for a long time. I loved the way the blocks kinda look like they are floating. Not hard to make and is pretty fast. It is from the Linus projects I got it from their website. Here is a picture.

I fussy-cut some picture fabric and alternated with 4-patches using solid colors from the feature fabric. That turned out cute - wish I had taken a pic.

Hi,
Here's a Disappearing Nine Patch I made last summer for our newest granddaughter. I added sashing to mine. All it took was one charm pack for the prints, a little bit of each of the Moda Marbles and 1.5 yd or so for the sashing and borders. I had enough leftovers of all, so added the piano key border. Went together quickly, too. Happy quilting, Karla See above. |
Ohhhh, I likey all those!!!
|
This is a "Square in a Square 2" from Quilters Cache. Easy, FAST!

Now I can't get the wrong one off of there. What happened to my "Edit" option???? Eeeekkks!
|
I really like both of them! What's the first pattern?
|
They are all lovely,
2k what is the first one I want to know too. |
That is an Australian Bush Quilt. Easy/Superfast. Quilt for a man.
STILL, why can I not get it off of this page? |
Those are all cute baby quilts!!!
|
I do a lot of applique baby quilts. I find an easy pattern of an animal that I like, and do a quilt around it. I have done one with bears, dogs, bugs, dinosaurs, and boats.

This is great especially with the added sashing.
|
I always get excited when someone is expecting a new baby! I buy the cross stitch baby blanket patterns to make. They always turn out to be the kid's comfort blankies. My daughter is 12 and still sleeps with hers!
|
I actually had one like that. It was my favorite and I slept with up until just a couple years before I left for college (given I just graduated from college a couple weeks ago).
|
Beautiful quilts all! I love the d9p with a colour for each block - great for a baby, or actually I'd like one myself! LOL Chele did a great pinwheel with prairie points a while ago - from the Moda bakeshop. Prairie points are great for babies cos they can fiddle with them. I made a smaller version myself from just blue and white as a wall hanging and it was very quick and easy - AND I'd never done prairie points before! http://www.modabakeshop.com/2009/03/...aby-quilt.html

I like that pinwheel baby quilt. I've never made prairie points, but I'm willing to try. I've already put it on my favorites.
There were no pictures on two of the posts. |
My absolute favorite Baby quilts are from Ursula Reikes books. She has a few books out there with that theme. Those books enable you to make baby quilts quickly while maintaining such a professional look. I've added embroidery to some of them and WOW.
Good luck. |
I am just finishing 2 quilts the same as Quiltnana's & they are very quick & really nice in the flannel.

You are describing the Disappearing nine patch. It is a great pattern and easy.
|
Where do you get the pattern for the hugs and kisses baby quilt?
|
Where do you get the pattern for the disappearing nine patch?

Thanks... |
Love your quilt. The colors are just gorgeous!! I looked at the tutorial for the disappearing 9 patch, but it is done in scrappy fabrics, and I just can't envision how you placed your colors to make your beautiful quilt.
On the first block, is it a red square, then a white square, and then another red one. Second row, a white square, then a red one, and another white square. The third row, a red square, white one, and then a red one? |

I've made a bunch of these. The D9P is one of my favorites and I prefer the patterned design over scrappy.
For the quickest method, you can stach n wack 3 fabrics. You will need 2 strips of "A" fabric, 3 of your "Focus" fabric, and 4 of fabric "B". I use width of fabric, 6 inch strips. Then make strips sets: Set one and 3 are: A,B, F. Then 1 of B,F,B. Cut strip sets into 6 inch segments. Then assemble your nine-patch blocks through chain piecing. Then make the + cuts, swap, and once again chain piece the "super blocks". Will try to attach pics of a couple of these. Happy quilting! Again, quick and easy! The top took less than 2 hours. |
