Hi everyone, I was wondering what everyones favorite fusible. I have used most kinds but I haven't found one I like to use all the time. I use to use steam a seam alot but it seems stiff. Now I use heat n bond lite but it seems like sometimes when I am stitching the fabric isn't fused down good. But with this one at least the fabric stays less stiff. Has anyone found a better one? :)

Have you tried steam a seam lite 2?? It is much softer, but a great tip is to actually cut out the centre of the fusible on any piece that is large enough, leaving only a 1/4" border of fusible. This lessens the stiffness a lot! Plus if you are careful you can re-use what you cut out for smaller appliques!

I use heat n bond lite - and I use a lot of it. Usually it doesn't stick well if it is heated too long, or that is what I have found when it happens to me.

i've had good luck with 'wonder-under' that's been around for many many years. also misty fuse is a very soft fusable.

Marcie 03-15-2011 04:11 AM

Wonder Under #805! I use tons of it. ;-)

thequiltmama 03-15-2011 04:31 AM

I have never heard of the last 2 ideas. :) I will look into that.

Midwestmary 03-15-2011 04:41 AM

I love Shades Soft Fuse. Not as well known as some of the other products - but much better in my opinion. Very light weight yet adheres well. Not affiliated with them in any way, just very pleased with this product.

wonder under and lite heat bond...I just started cutting out the center and it makes the world of difference...

CarrieAnne 03-15-2011 04:59 AM

I like the Heat and Bond lite!

fabric_fancy 03-15-2011 05:05 AM

merry 03-15-2011 05:31 AM

Wonder Under is my fav

Lori B. 03-15-2011 06:52 AM

I use Bosal fusible. It's the only fusible my LQS carries as everybody loves it.

thequiltmama 03-15-2011 07:09 AM

I have never heard of that, I am going to go and search that so I can find it. thanks :)

Steam a seam 2 fusible web, sticks to the back of fabric so I can put it upon my design wall to check it out before I iron it.

quiltpd 03-15-2011 08:58 AM

I use Heat and Bond Lite almost exclusively. Iron on a silk setting for about 10 seconds.Never had a problem. But I do keep in a sealed plastic bag. Seems to keep it in like new shape.

oatw13 03-15-2011 01:44 PM

I like Wonder Under.

That is a good tip to cut out the centers, I will have to try it.

msawicki64 03-16-2011 03:10 AM

I have a silly question but what is fusible and what would you use it for with quilting? thanks

thequiltmama 03-16-2011 03:16 AM

I use it for applique on quilts but I am sure there are other uses. It is just a sticky when ironed usually paper type substance that holds the fabric in place so you can sew it down. :) And that is never a silly question. I didn't know before I used it. :)

Shades Soft Fuse is wonderful

Yooper32 03-16-2011 04:20 AM

Somewhere in my cyber wandering yesterday, I heard or read about another fusible called Do Sew, at least I am pretty sure that is the name of it. It sounded like a winner for applique, using the sew right sides together, slit fusible on back, turn and press to project. Have never seen it anywhere or heard of it before. Anyone else know of it and where it can be found?

nantucketsue 03-16-2011 04:52 AM

I prefer Steam a Seam 2 Lite toHeat n Bond. I have not seen or tried any of the others. I also use featherweight interfacing for some applique projects.

Vat 03-16-2011 05:00 AM

ditto. This is the BEST one out there. Once the project is finished you don't even know it is in your project, it is so soft.

There is a fusible called Vilene. It does not seem to be stiff and works nicely. A guild member uses it all the time on the McKenna Ryan projects, they are just beautiful.

Chay 03-16-2011 05:21 AM

Thanks for that info on Shades. I have used Mistyfuse but I find it kind of a pain because there's no paper backing.

Wow, expensive! Misty Fuse is cheaper, just use parchment paper for the release paper.

thequiltmama 03-16-2011 05:38 AM

I never thought of that idea..thanks. :)

I buy feather weight fusible interfacing, you can hardly tell its there!

such a sew and sew 03-16-2011 08:41 AM

I have used them all. Misty Fuse is my favorite.

IDquilter 03-16-2011 08:57 AM

I use heat-n-bond lite. I have never thought about only fusing the edges and cutting out the center, will have to give that tip a try.

just what I was going to say. wonder under 805 is by Pelon. it is great. you must let it cool completely before removing the paper, works better.

So do I

anniec55 03-16-2011 03:03 PM

I like the "Steam a Seam 2" and "wonder under" the best depending on what I am working on.

sewgarden 03-16-2011 05:38 PM

I like Florianas Appli-Kay

jitkaau 03-16-2011 05:40 PM

Vleisofix.

bamamama 03-16-2011 05:46 PM

I've heard that misty fuse dosen't leave the applique stiff. I've not tried it yet but plan to on my next project. I've been using wonder under.

nanabeth 03-16-2011 07:32 PM

I've just found "French Fuse Fusible Interfacing." It is soft and completely flexible. I heard about it via Leah Day. I've made a picture with lots of appliques and it seems to work well. Also, I could peel off any pieces that I didn't like!

franair 03-16-2011 07:54 PM

I have had trouble with heat and Bond too.. just does not fuse for me.. I like the regular lite weight one..that Joanne sells..
