What is your favorite Notion...?
Do you purchase lots of different ones? Can you pass up a good looking, easy to use Notion one you feel you just can not live without? |
Needless to say, a seam ripper. But in addition to that, I use an awl. It's perfect for coaxing and easing fabric a little at a time into seams.

I have to say I love my new little gizmo..and, I don't know what they call it..but, I love it! (Okay someone can say what it is called if you know!)It looks like a ruler...long about 12" and in the middle is a line...and, the edge either way of it is 1/4"....and, you can use this to mark your 1/4" marks to sew on...so, you can layer 2, let's say 5" square...then mark you lines, sew....On lines...then cut between them which is where the line was on this ruler thingie....which then makes your 2 triangles sets...and, you can keep going across , up and down w/these lines, sewing and then the cut...and, you'd have little pinwheel pieces!:)Such a fun little gizmo..and, such a pretty neon orange...and so sorry I can't name it;)Skeat who paid only a bit over $2 for this entertainment...that keeps going for now I have entertained you!LOL
Mine is presser feet...different templates...rulers....marking pens....a cute little triangle trimmer...manicure scissorss (yes, plural) the list goes on.....

I'm with Amma--if a gadget exists, I probably have it. (probably haven't used half of them). Oh and if it's "as seen on tv" I gotta get it!! I have every peeler, noodle cooker, window cleaner, etc, etc that's ever been sold on tv (all neatly stored in the basement, unused) What can I say? I'm a "junkie"!! (But not for drugs-just junk LOL)

I have a lot but I think my favorite is the Kwik Klip to help these old arthritic hands pin all those pins in the quilt. If you've never used it trust me it makes it so easy to pin the pins, and also to take them out when you start quilting.
I love notions and gadgets and depending on the price, I'll usually buy it and try it, if it catches my fancy. The same with kitchen gadgets. Love em. I think my fave sewing notion is my magnetic pin holder.
My most favorite- current- is a short ruler used in paper piecing to cut for the 1/4 inch . It has a little lip so it doesn't slid  and don't ask why I need that little lip
I love rotary cutters and scissors. I have all different kinds.
I have quite a few but the best is the Quilt in a Day triangle square up ruler. It saves so much cutting and your HST's come out perfect.
I also like her flying geese rulers. I agree the Kwik Klip and pin covers are a great hand saver. |
My Pfaff SID foot. It works like a plough and keeps me in the groove.
Mine would be my magnetic pin holder and my gingher snips. I have had my snips for years and they are the best.

I haven't seen anything new, but I do keep looking. Have to learn how to use all the ones I have. Can't say I have a favorite.
I love my seam rippers, embroidery scissors and magnetic pin holder.
I love notions! I can spend some happy time just looking and touching them, and of course picking out one to take home. I have an assortment of seam rippers. Just got a new one today. I use them a lot
My absolute favourite..at the moment  is my glass headed applique pins which i only just bought. They are so fine that they just glide into the material..heaven..and you can iron over them as they are heat resistant. They are truly a pleasure to use..can you tell i love them :D
They were a little pricey and for anyone interested they are by clover and they also had patchwork pins which were extra long but were even dearer. Mine have see through yellow and blue glass heads..so pretty...and the other good thing is you can see them easier on the floor with the glass head. |
My favs are my seam ripper and razor blade because I do a lot of ripping.
Then there is my 6" ruler I can't live without! And my long handled tweezers and snips. If I see something nifty that will help too, I will buy it. |
I just love notions and usually can't help buying that "new" one that will just revolutionize my quilting. My favorite new gizmo is the Triangulations CD -- I made flawless (well -- almost  ) 1" 1/2 square triangles......
I don't have very many notions, there are a few I would like. Money is tight right now and if I have to choose between fabric and notions...fabric wins! BUT...if you do much hand sewing and your eyes aren't as young as they used to be... the clover needle threader is wonderful!!
My favorite tool may be the magnetic wanted, I use that all the time. Apparently, I lovelooking around at all the giszmo's, but I got to stay out of the fabric stores!! I keep buying and still trying to get a stash, but enough projects to get me thru the winter I think. Today I bought a 1" bias tape maker, some flannel, and whatever else, came to over $21 and I was happy I didn't spend more.

bump,sorry

Snips ... the more the better. At the factory, we absolutely carried those things in our hands ... the ones that have the ring that goes over the ring finger ... get so used to having it in your hand, that you don't even notice it, especially when power sewing. Good snips will have pointy tips so you don't have to look for the fifteen seam rippers I haven't been able to find for the last eight years  Rotary Cutter ... best thing ever! I have a weakness for a lot of rotary templates that I haven't ever used, but maybe one day! <g> |
This is funny because i think I take some things so much for granted.....that I didn't think a seem ripper or rotary cutter would be considered notions...because those are necessary?? Hehe...isn't it funny how that works....
I guess those are my favorite! Other than that...quarter inch foot......and my free motion foot....ummmm |

My favorite is a wooden awl that my husband made by mistake while doing some woodworking. He was showing me some pieces he had made and I knew I need one and just what I needed it for. It comes in handy when I am pressing small pieces.
I must admitt my most used notion is the seamripper. My granddaughter rook sewing in school this year. One day I asked her how she like seewing. Her answer--Gramma I am becoming best friends with the seam ripper. |

My favorite thing is any thing new the quilt shop has! i quilt with 18-20 lovely women and we do lots of road trips. About 5 of us are good, long time friends. We want what ever the other 3 or 4 just bought.
Really the neatest thing and I did not see it mentioned on the messages, are the little hair clips to use when binding a quilt. They are so much easier to use than pins and don't get lost! |
My 6x12 ruler and flat-handled seam rippers (so they don't roll away). On another MB, we did a poll about how many rulers and scissors we had - I was embarassed to admit having 34 rulers and 14 pair of scissors, but wasn't anywhere near the ones with the most!
My favorite notion is the one I haven't bought yet. My DH says if I don't have the latest sewing thing it's because I haven't seen it. He is so right. I'd have to say right now it's the Simplicity bias tape maker. Seam rippers are a very important tool in my sewing studio. I think I have every brand there is. Scissors, I love scissors, I have over 150 pairs they are in every room of the house.
My favorite notion is my June Taylor cutting ruler.
After sewing for approximately 40 years fighting with cheap scissors, I finally invested in good Gingher scissors - both a big pair and a small pair. Every time I pick up one of those scissors I feel a little 'thrill'. Okay, guess it doesn't take much to make me happy.
I love good marking pencils. Do presser feet count as notions? I love the presser feet.
Wow! Alot of you love your seam ripper? Not me-just means I messed up again!
Does a table top ironing board count as a notion? Means I never have to get up again! |
Can't live without my Havel Snip-Eze scissors. They are a squeeze type clipper with curved blades.
I love my radio in the room - but u have lots of great gadgets.
Sassy Sally sent me a nifty little wooden point turner/presser for Christmas that I simply adore! It means that I don't have to run to the iron with every seam, and the point turner works like a charm!
I love notions and have quite a collection. One of my absolute favourites is the "Purple Thang" which is about the size of a crochet hook but much more versatile. It has a perfect 1/4" square on one end, a slightly curved hook on the other to gently poke out corners and a slit to thread elastic or ribbon. It does all of this and more and sells for $3.75 in Canada. Another favourite is the Clover chalk markers (under $10)which make a great line and stay on long enough to quilt or write a label and still come off easily. I have them in yellow, pink and blue!
I probably have most of the notions on th market. Sooooooo my favorite is the one I don't have yet. Should be some new stuff at the Expo. I am kind of partial to rotarys. I have several different styles.
