Favorite Online Quilt Shops?
I know this topic has been talked about here before (probably many times) but I kind of wanted to rehash it just to see what some of the current favorites are.
I live in the Grand Middle of Nowhere so sometimes it's hard to find exactly the fabrics I want at the few local sources we do have here. I frequently end up buying online and wondered where others like to shop. At the moment my son is on a pirate kick so I was looking for pirate fabrics without a huge amount of success. It seems the pirate craze was really more like a year ago so a lot of that stuff has been phased out. I did find a few things here and there, and definitely did have more luck online than locally. So here are some of the places I've bought from: Fabric.com Clotilde.com JandOFabrics.com Joann.com (though I don't think their selection is that great) FavoriteFabric.com Occasionally eBay if I'm desperate, but that's risky ... you can get stuff that smells like smoke, or isn't the amount promised, or is badly photographed so the colors aren't right, and then you sometimes get sellers that just take your money and run. Anyone else have any favorites? Becki |
Connecting threads and Ericas also.

Thousandsofbolts.com and missouriquiltco.com
Agree on Connectiing threads and fabric.com |
I am new to this , but I have ordered twice from ForthWorthFabricStudio.com and I have been very pleased. Super fast shipping and even adjusted a shipping fee down from what was quoted. Great selection too. I also ordered from FatQuarters.com adn Joann's this weekend, have not yet received the order so I can not comment on those yet. Online shopping is evil! Just kidding, so much better selection online but way too easy to spend money.

Oh, forgot about FatQuarters.com. I've bought from them, too, no complaints.
|
I like Shabby Fabrics and Missouri Star Quilt, also Keepsake. Love Connecting Threads and Fat Quarter Shop
|
Favorite Fabrics is my "go to" for current fabrics .. Love them! For other fabrics , backings in particular , and just general stash filling its Thousands of Bolts .
|
Canton Village Quilt Works http://www.cvquiltworks.com/shop/ is a fantastic source for lots of fabrics, I especially love the Kaffe Fassett selections here. Excellent customer service, broad selections, good prices & great sales----not to mention lots of giveaways & fab blog, too.
Ericas.com is my absolute favorite spot for 30s reproductions & some applique items & they offer international shipping deals when they have shipping specials (not just limited to US like SO many others). Fabricworm.com & Sew Fresh Fabrics etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/sewfreshfabrics are great sources for modern fabrics! I have my eyes on several must-have bundles as we speak. Have a lot of other great places I've ordered from but these are my top ones so far. |
Hancocks of Paducah has a huge selection; love Conncection Threads & Fat Quarters
|
Fort Worth Fabric Studios! I have ordered a few times and with only one issue with a quilt kit that was packaged by Robert Kaufman, not them. They sent me the fabric I was shorted, even though they didn't have it in stock. Fabulous, fabulous, fabulous prices and customer service!

I shop primarily online as I live in a rural area with no quilt shops. I buy most of my fabric from a few trusted Ebay sellers and usually will only buy via auction...great way to save $$$. I also shop at:
connectingthreads.com whittlesfabrics.com keepsakequilting.com fabric.com Of those Connecting Threads and Whittles are my favorites. Hope that helps! ~Peggy |
Ericas.com
connectingthreads.com keepsakequilting.com clotilde.com nancysnotions.com fabric.com equilter.com theoldcountrystore.com |
Fat Quarter Shop is my all time favorite online store. Shabby Fabric is one of my fav's also. I have never had any trouble with ebay. If they take your money and run, turn them in. Ebay promises to pay you if something like that happens. And if it smells like smoke, send it back. Ebay promises that they will reimburse you if you are not satisfyed. I buy from moandmacs on ebay. Wonderful store. They always send me gifts with my orders. They once sent me a book about all the quilter's who published with CT Publishing and the women all had great stories to tell. Very good store to shop. I also shop at The Quilting Bee in Austin, TX. I shop online all the time now. When I go to the local quilt shops, they only have a few fabrics from any given line. Online I can get the whole fabric line, if I choose. But I do shop at my LQS frequently.

Crafttown Fabrics, inter-net orders are always 10% off and pre cuts are always 20% off. The best selection of quilt backings also. I also like Fabric Buffet.
|
I like Erica's - if you are ever in northern Indiana, visit the store - it's wonderful to shop in as well!
|
I like Fabric Depot; StitchinHeaven (in Quitman, TX); FatQuarterShop; eQuilter (especially for theme fabrics).
|
Over the Rainbow is wonderfull! Also, Fabric.com, Somewhere Sewing, Shabby Fabrics, Fabric Shack and if I'm searching for something I'm desperate for...I try quiltshops.com.
|
I like www.thehometownquilter.com. She isn't a huge shop, however, she is very nice and she aims to please her customers and her shipping charges aren't outrageous.
|
Wow this is great, thanks everyone! Lots of links I haven't seen before. Can't wait to check them all out!
|
I like www.fabric.com www.equilter.com www.bearpawquilting.com and I do buy from certain sellers on e-bay. I have learned by some experience about some of the sellers there. If buying on e-bay, the text has to say non-smoking studio or something of the sort. I do not want fabric with any kind of odor.

I buy alot of Moda and I shop online I buy from Crazyquiltgirlshop.com, keepsake quilting, Hancocks of paducah. I buy from Etsy when I'm trying to find an older fabric or a certain fabric I need more of. I only had one weird experience and that was with JandOfabrics and I'm hoping it was an isolated event. I ordered like 8 yards of fabric for a backing and when it arrived the tape to seal the envelope was covered in bird seed, the fabric was fine and wrapped but I thought it was super odd that someone would seal an envelope with tape with bird seed stuck to it.
On a side note I just saw some pirate fabric bugfabric.com has some. I have not bought from them but I've been looking for certain fabric so I been to tons of shops online. I'm looking for White Tiger fabric and can't believe I can't find it so I feel you! |
Even though I don't buy much fabric on line, this is very good information to know. I only knew of a few of them.
|
fabrics.com and Hobby Lobby, and have been pleased with both.
|
fabricshack.com is BY FAR my most favorite! Lots of great sales and LOW LOW LOW shipping. I've been to the store (near Cincinnati) and they are the best!

Connecting threads
Missouri quilt Beverly's -- just found this one, great prices and a daily special Fabric.com I come across new sites regularly. You just have to get out there and play. Go to fabshophop.com and you will find over 100 sites listed. |
I have ordered from Connecting Threads & have abolutely no complaints. Have also ordered from Quilt in a Day - love their rulers.
|
Sorry you've had bad experiences, GiddyUpGo. I have used Connecting Threads as well as others but my
favorite is www.fortworthfabricstudio.com . She is an online only and very helpful if you're looking for something specific. She ships the day you order and it's always exactly as presented. She even includes little extra things like personalized pencil or bag of cocoa mix...kind of sweet personal touch. Jodie is a great shop owner who keeps her prices reasonable. |
I'm glad to see equilter mentioned. They have such a huge selection I'm always amazed. Seems like it was around Christmas they had a free shipping deal and I loaded up. Otherwise, I always look for free shipping such as fabric.com has. Fabric can be heavy and bulky and I'm not usually willing to pay an extra .50c to $1 per yard.
I avoid places that show prices by the 1/2 yard. I suppose they're ashamed of their per yard prices and are trying to mislead customers. It offends me that they must think I'm that stupid. A place I don't believe I've ever seen mentioned but have ordered from several times is http://www.corinthianmills.com/. |
I also live in the middle of nowhere. I have 1 quilt shop, 1 JoAnns and 1 Hobby Lobby. It is very rare that they have just what I am looking for.
Here are my favorite online shops: Quilt Fabric Closeouts Whittles Fabric.com Connecting Threads Then there are times when I just need to do a search for the type of fabric I am looking for such as batik, civil war, 1930's, etc. I look for the best selection and best price and best shipping price. I think all the online shops have the local stores beat.....unless you live in a big city. |
Quilt in a Day, MarshallDryGoods, Keepsake, Favorite Fabrics
|
When I am looking for something specific I check here. http://www.quiltshops.com/

LOVE fabric.com
|
Connecting Threads, Paducah, Fat Quarter and Green Fairy Quilts
|
I'd like to add Overrainbow.com. I also like Hancocks of Paducah.
