OK, now that we know what everyone dislikes about making quilts. What is your favorite part about making quilts??
Planning!
I will start....
the middle part, when you actually see the quilt starting to come together! TreeFrog |
I love the quilting. It's really relaxing to me.
playing with fabric...
I like the planning and piecing the top.
Piecing love it but hate the quilting
giving it to someone and seeing how special it is.
I love all of it. By the time it's time to move on to the next stage, I am quite ready to do something else. So I look forward to every stage....
ALL OF IT...EVERY STEP OF THE WAY :!:
My favorite part is looking at everyone's quilts on this site!
completion.

I love seeing my ideas come together the right way, but I also enjoy the look on peoples' faces when they receive one from me. :)

Buying and picking out the fabric
if it is a quilt i design than i enjoy every step of the process. if it is a kit.. surviving! don't know why i have problems with kits. perhaps it is an authority issue.
I love buying the fabric, piecing & putting on the binding.
Usually I love it all, except the B word. Right now I love ironing, because my fingers are warm being close to the iron. Never thought I would like ironing.
I love the excitement of a new project, choosing my fabrics/colors and seeing the top come together with each new block! LOL!
I love selecting a project (though it takes me forever to decide which one to do from the gazallion patterns marked "MUST DO"), selecting the fabrics, cutting, piecing, and I LOVE applique! Then, my bubble is burst when reality hits--I now have to BASTE that sucker!! But then, I struggle deciding how to quilt it (by hand), and finally, the total enjoyment of hand-quilting! I even love to do the binding. So, I guess I love EVERYTHNG enough to compensate for the HATRED and DREAD of basting!!
I love choosing the fabrics and putting together the entire top. After that I want the quilting and binding done ASAP so I can move on to my next project.
I love the idea of creating something new! I rarely use any pattern but what I design so every part from beginning to end is what comes out of my head. Sometimes I am afraid my head will explode I have so many ideas.
I am learning to love it all. I used to love the designing part, I usually use a pattern to start and then use my imagination to get the effect I want, and you would never know it started with a pattern. I still like the fabric selection part, don't really care for the cutting out chore(bad shoulder), I love the piecing and watching it grow. And I am learning to love the machine quilting and the binding...because I did it all...from start to finish. So the answer to your question: The satisfaction that I did it all :):):)
Picking out all the fabrics, then making the blocks!

My most fav is the design process, everything else is a close second

Getting the idea!! All of a sudden a thought will pop in the head and off I go. Pulling out bins of fabric, pulling out the different fabrics, playing and fondling the fabric.
The cutting and piecing are OK, but when the top is finished, and sandwiched and if for this quilt time permits, hand quilting ranks right up there for me. |

Quilting is just plain good for a person! |

I enjoy the piecing but especially when I place the sections of blocks together to see what I've created. I don't buy kits, just find a pettern I like, pick out fabrics and go from there. Making a OBW is especially fun to see the patterns emerge as you sew the triangles together.
Thinking of the person I am making it for and what I think they will like; designing something special for that person.
I like everything but especially working with the colors and textures together. And then on my " art" quilts I love seeing the layers of thread drawing really make the surface come alive.

Designing a quilt--pulling fabrics and making the tops.
It is hard to pick out what I like the most. I guess it would have to be the hand quilting. So relaxing for a few months. Strange as it may sound, I even like washing and ironing the fabric. I get a thrill at every step except making the sandwich.

Standing in front of the calico section at Joanne's and just taking in all those colors and patterns--oh, where to start.
