Quilters Complete Guide by Fons and Porter. Bought it many years ago (1993) and still sometimes refer to it today.

I second that. It's my favorite one too.

OK, thanks to all my 'enabler' friends here, to START, I ordered Eileen Wright's Twist and Turn Bargello Quilts, and Quiltmaking by Hand by Jinny Beyer and I got them in the mail today. Wanted to let you all know how wonderful these two books are.

The bargello quilt book has the 'infamous' Surf Song pattern, plus many other really neat-o bargello patterns. The instructions are step-by-step and it has lots of beautiful pictures. Makes the bargello not as scary as I thought. Great book!

Quiltmaking by Hand has more of a traditional feel to it, and with lots of pictures and wonderful teaching. This is a pretty big book, with 260+ pages. It's a wonderful 'teaching/reference' book for your library. Makes me want to try something I never thought I would try - hand piecing!

I'd HIGHLY recommend both of these books.
