Favourite Pattern?

I am new to quilting and have tried a few different patterns. Just wondering if you more experienced quilters have a favourite pattern that you could make over and over again.

BTW, I have learned so much from this board and I thank all of you for your tips.

Thanks.

My favorites (I like relatively easy patterns) are log cabin, warm wishes, dresden plate, tumbler, pinwheels, simple blocks sewn together with sashing between, rail fence.

Drue 11-11-2011 05:42 PM

I seldom do a pattern more than once except for those that are appliqued and I do stitch some repeats of those. I would like to do another "snail's Trail" That one was fun to do!

ShabbyTabby 11-11-2011 06:29 PM

I prefer simple and easy, so I like pinwheels, DP9, simple nine or four patch, rail fence and log cabin

Fraew 11-11-2011 06:32 PM

Irish Chain and Trip Around the World are my easy strip pieced favorites.

lynnegreen 11-11-2011 06:34 PM

My go-to blocks are 9 patch, DP9 and log cabin. I also love the 1600 inch (made with one jelly roll).

NikkiLu 11-11-2011 06:45 PM

Whatever you choose - make it an easy one. My first quilt is unfinished and has been in my closet for 40 years!!!!! A horrible mess. I should have chosen an easier pattern. I was a clothing seamstress and thought that I could master this complicated pattern - doubt if it would last for one washing.

Chicca 11-11-2011 07:17 PM

I always have a difficult time with this question....there are so many wonderful patterns. I really enjoy applique and have done a couple Sun Bonnet Sue quilts and Dresden Plate quilts, plus any quilt pattern that uses lots of scraps. Very interesting and fun reading every ones comments. Thanks for sharing.

Needlegrammy 11-11-2011 07:42 PM

Rail fence is a good one, D9P, I like doing stars blocks.

Dina 11-11-2011 07:45 PM

I like Warm Wishes. I haven't made one for myself yet, but I have made many for others. :) Soon I will do one for me, I think.

Lori S 11-11-2011 07:54 PM

My "go to" pattern is a Log Cabin ... especially for scrap quilts.

KerryK 11-11-2011 07:57 PM

I just love scrappy quilts. They are so homey and inviting, to me.

Mariposa 11-11-2011 08:21 PM

Log cabin and pinwheels are a couple of my favorites~~

woody 11-11-2011 08:35 PM

The only pattern I have ever repeated was a OBW, the pattern might be the same but they look totally different with different fabric. There are too many gorgeous patterns out there, and life is too short to keep making the same pattern over and over again. You should see my to do list:D and every day that I look here on the board it grows and grows, at this rate I will never get to the bottom of it even if I live to 200

The only pattern I have repeated (and I did it 3 times) is a type of stack and slash. Here is one version.

My fav is Eleanor Burns's Tennessee WaLtz, I have made it five times for graduation and the large empty places are great for pictures.

My fav is Eleanor Burns's Tennessee WaLtz, I have made it five times for graduation and the large empty places are great for pictures. How do I add a picture, they changed it.

deemail 11-12-2011 12:31 AM

I love a 9 patch! there are so many possibilities with a 9 patch.... color and texture are my favorite quilt thing and 9 patches are just perfect for these...

fleurdelisquilts.com 11-12-2011 01:09 AM

My absolute favorite is Dresden Plate. I collect vintage plates with roses, so I guess it's just another part of the obsession.

plainpat 11-12-2011 02:44 AM

Mmmmm....have to think on that question. For me, a string quilt & rag quilts are easy.Like others have mentioned, making the same pattern is boring.
A lot of ppl say the log cabin is easy, but that was one of my 1st quilts & it was not easy at all.The blocks were/are wonky, but didn't know how to square blocks.
Maybe I will make another one, just to see if I've improved!

quilterella 11-12-2011 02:47 AM

I seem to make alot of log cabins, they are quick and easy, and have so many different setting choices. Others I like are the snowball/nine patch variation and dresden plates.

Moonglow 11-12-2011 03:08 AM

There aren't many that I don't like but my favourites would be Log Cabin, DP9 and Card Tricks.

jahaper 11-12-2011 03:50 AM

My favorite is any stack and whack. I have done many. Love how each block is different.

jitkaau 11-12-2011 04:15 AM

Anything that is different from the one I did before and especially if it teaches me a new technique or is a challenge.

Shelbie 11-12-2011 04:15 AM

If I need a quick quilt, I often cut my focus fabric into 8 1/2" squares and pick out four colours from this fabric and make a co-ordinating four patch. I then simply stitch the quilt top alternating a focus fabric with a four patch. Thirty five blocks, eiighteen focus and seventeen four patch blocks will make a crib quilt 40" X 56" which is just about right.

teddysmom 11-12-2011 04:48 AM

I'm also new to quilting. I like the 9 patch and the snowball. It's amazing how many quilts I've seen displayed at LQS that are made of these 2 patterns.

gollytwo 11-12-2011 04:51 AM

Rail Fence, Jacob's Ladder, Hole in the Barn Door, Blockade and Jack in the Box
I also love 4 and 9-patch done in small squares

susie-susie-susie 11-12-2011 05:55 AM

I rarely make the same pattern more that once except for log cabin. I have made 2 or 3 of them. I love making different patterns, and have many UFO's to finish. Seems like every time I plan on finishing one of them, someone announces that a baby is on the way and I have to make a baby quilt. A woman's work is never done!!!

One Block Wonders are fun as no two are alike and they are not difficult to make. I have made 5. I have also made the 9 patch pizazz 5 times and they are fairly simple to make but turn out fun. I am using my scraps on a spiderweb quilt and love the look. Here is it half done. The how to is from Material Obsession 2. This is my first time posting so here is to hope it works.

amandasgramma 11-12-2011 06:06 AM

I always like to try something new -- like the challenge. I have a customer that has done the "Take Five Gets the Point" quilts a coupla times.....she said they're very easy to make.

knlsmith 11-12-2011 06:06 AM

storm at sea is my favorite right now. I'm on my third one, but this one is queen sized and will take awhile. I also like Lucky Stars for an easy one that looks difficult.

snipforfun 11-12-2011 06:10 AM

Anything from Tradition With a Twist

dunster 11-12-2011 06:51 AM

I love log cabins because I can use up my scraps and every one turns out completely different (different settings, different fabrics, different twists with combining other blocks or changing some of the log cabin logs).

carslo 11-12-2011 07:06 AM

Google the Wickedly Easy Quilt you can use yardage instead of fat quarters it is a great quilt for beginners or more experienced quilters one of my go to quilts.

sarahrachel 11-12-2011 08:32 AM

I have yet to make either of my favorite patterns as I'm still searching for the perfect fabrics for them, but the Lone Star and this one
http://lynnesfreshhope.blogspot.com/...y%20sew-a-long are my favorites along with Grandmother's flower garden (wip) and for a simple quilt, I like double Irish chain. But I haven't done any quilt more than once as there are so many different patterns out there, but I think I may do a sampler next so I can try a bunch of different blocks!

yayaquilts 11-12-2011 08:34 AM

Quick Trips Quilts by Eleanor Burns is an easy and great looking quilt as is her Quick Quarter Quilt from same book. Both look really complicated but are actually easy when you follow her method. I have made about a dozen of these!!

Olivia's Grammy 11-12-2011 08:35 AM

The newest one I've seen and don't have. Love to buy them and then I forget about them.

ruthrings 11-12-2011 08:36 AM

I love Winning Hand by Eleanor Burns' Quilt in a Day. That is what you see in my Avatar.

Sewflower 11-12-2011 09:57 AM

Anything with stars.

granny216 11-12-2011 10:33 AM

Give me an Ohio Star anytime but I love all the patterns. Might just make me another Carpenter wheel one as mine came out so nice. So many patterns that I really like and have only made a few that were the same but Ohio Star always comes up a winner.
