Like you, I just happened on not one, but three featherweights!! One from my mom, one from my MIL and one from a dear friend. Take the time to learn all about your sweet new gift and enjoy her. If, after time, you still decide to sell her, please come to this board for a buyer - so many ladies and gents here are waiting for the day when a FW finally becomes available to them.

I'll echo what everyone else said...I just bought one on eBay to use for classes and retreats so I don't try to tote around my (heavy and expensive) sensitive computerized machine. And it's so darn cute! There are all kinds of parts and resources available on the web.

I agree. Don't get rid of it if theres ANY chance that you might take a class, or travel, or have to sew in the kitchen or, any other room in the house. If this was given to you and sews good, it will be VERY expensive to replace down the road. Think carefully.

I totally agree don't sell this unless you see it to me.... It may only stitch straight but it will keep sewing and not spend long waits in the shop for tweeks, adjustments, new computer parts and of course the BILL for repairs. My mom was a seamstress and had a tredle Singer that she used night and day for 48 yrs. I used it for 10 more years before the insides were so worn down it had to be retired. That was the seventies and no one was repairing or refurbishing Singers then. :cry: :cry: :cry:

Don't sell it until you give it LOTS of thought. I have a Janome, a Singer, and a Universal..accumulated over a 30 yr period but always wanted a FW. My best friend had one and I lusted after it. I finally bought one on eBay and I like it so much, I bought my sister one too. They are going for upwards from $200 and worth every penny.

I have wanted one for years and a friend of mine picks them up at auctions. She was gracious enough to let me make payments on one. I am so excited and will start sewing with it as soon as I am able to get my sewing room back together!!!
Think long and hard before you toy with selling it. You may regret it!

I repaired an old sleeping bag that was tremously thick. My $6000.00 Bernina couldn't do it because I used upholstery thread and I couldn't get the black latch bobbin to accept. I put it on my featherweight and had the zipper repaired in under 20 minutes. Wouldn't trade any of my machines, but love my featherweight. What a workhorse!!!
